When choosing a place to stay in Hohen Schönberg, the landscape, cycling, cultural attractions and farm experiences offer a range of options. These include a cycling tour with specific details on distance and duration, as well as listed buildings and an exhibition with a sculpture park. You can plan your stay around whichever of these interests you most.

Landscape and Views

The Lenorenwald nature conservation area also includes Hohen Schönberg in the north. Two giant sequoias stand in Lenorenwald, south of the hill known as “Hoher Schönberg.” These protected-area surroundings and the trees offer two specific nature-related points of interest to consider when planning your trip. The viewing platform on Hohen Schönberg is free to access and is one of the attractions in the municipality of Kalkhorst.

Cycling and Views

Hohen Schönberg lies on the easy “Weite Blicke” cycling tour starting in Klütz. The route is about 42 kilometres long and takes approximately three hours. It goes through Grundshagen to the Hoher Schönberg organic farm, where it reaches the viewing platform on the highest hill in the Klützer Winkel, about 90 metres above sea level. From there, you can enjoy far-reaching panoramic views across the landscape and the Baltic Sea. The route’s length, approximate duration and difficulty rating give you specific details to help plan your ride.

Another option is the “Raubritter und Galgenvögel” cycling tour, which passes the viewing platform by the Hoher Schönberg farm. From there, you can look out over Lübeck Bay. Both tours include a viewpoint, but each highlights a different vista: “Weite Blicke” mentions the landscape and the Baltic Sea, while “Raubritter und Galgenvögel” mentions Lübeck Bay.

Listed Buildings, Farm History and Art

Hohen Schönberg’s listed buildings include the school at Kalkhorster Straße 17 and the barn at Kalkhorster Straße 17a. The listed farm complex at Kalkhorster Straße 2 comprises a hall house, a barn and a former stable. These buildings and the farm complex offer different insights into local architectural history.

The Hoher Schönberg organic farm is partly run as a farm museum in the historical style. Its focus is on farming in the historical style, while the listed buildings mentioned above are described in terms of their buildings and listed status. Galerie Mooin combines an exhibition with a sculpture park, adding an artistic focus to the historical themes.

Café and Special Experiences

Café Landliebe in Hohen Schönberg serves homemade cakes and tarts. The café also has an approximately 90-square-metre SIKU-Control miniature landscape with original radio-controlled vehicles. For children’s birthday parties, it offers a special SIKU race, cakes made to order and a special birthday package for young guests.

Those interested in how oil is made can watch four cold-press oil mills in action at the farm shop at the Hoher Schönberg farm and experience freshly pressed oil made from seeds and nuts. Visitors can also try hanging loungers at the SeelenWiege exhibition in Hohen Schönberg and get advice about them. The offerings therefore cater to a range of interests, from technology and children’s birthday parties to oil production and trying out hanging loungers.
