Krembz is located near Lake Schaalsee in a hilly part of Northwest Mecklenburg. Several districts are considered part of the Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve; part of the municipality lies within Schaalsee Nature Park. There are also forests in the wider municipal area. The natural landscape and architectural history offer different points of interest: moors and protected areas shape the landscape, while the manor house, church and village layout offer a glimpse into the area's history. When looking for a hotel for a trip to Krembz, you can first decide whether the landscape, historic sites or an event should be the main focus.

The landscape of Krembz

Neuendorfer Moor Nature Reserve lies one kilometre east of Krembz. The northern part of Schönwolder Moor is within the municipality of Krembz. The moor is considered Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's only raised bog with an almost undisturbed peat formation. Access is clearly restricted: Schönwolder Moor cannot be entered because there are no paths. Before activities in protected areas, check the relevant boundaries and access information.

Manor houses, church and village layout

Groß Salitz Manor House was built in the second half of the 17th century and is one of Mecklenburg's oldest manor houses. The church in Groß Salitz dates from the early 13th century and contains a number of works of art. The historic village layout there has also been largely preserved. Several well-preserved farmhouses have survived in Stöllnitz. The history of the villages therefore encompasses both individual buildings and the preserved village setting.

Cultural events and activities

Schönwolde Hunting Lodge is considered a restored attraction in the Krembz area. Concerts and events are held there occasionally. Cultural events have also been held at Groß Salitz Manor House since 2021, including concerts, readings and children's concerts. As event programmes may change, check the dates if a particular event is the reason for your trip.

Cyclists and groups travelling on foot or for spiritual reasons will also find relevant activities. Cycling Tour 7 – North Shore of Lake Schaalsee starts at Gadebusch railway station and is approximately 43 kilometres long. Its list of attractions also includes the churches in Groß Salitz. The FahrradKulTourKirche Groß Salitz project invites cyclists, hikers and pilgrimage groups to stop in Groß Salitz. The two details answer different planning questions: the cycling tour specifies its starting point and approximate length; the project identifies the groups invited to stop. For specific facilities or services on site, check in advance what is currently available.

Northwest Mecklenburg as the wider setting

Northwest Mecklenburg provides the wider setting: in the north of the district lies the landscape region “Northwest Mecklenburg Hills with Wismar Bay,” while the south is home to the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin.” The district's landscape is shaped by terminal moraine ridges, gently rolling ground moraine plateaus, steep and gently sloping stretches of coast, meltwater and drainage channels, and outwash plains. Gadebusch Castle is also in Northwest Mecklenburg district. The 1573 Renaissance castle is considered a rare example of Mecklenburg or North German brick Renaissance architecture; the building includes reliefs in the Johann Albrecht style.
