Haste between the Haster Forest and Local History

Haste is largely surrounded by the Haster Forest and has a well-developed network of hiking trails. There are also historic trails and individual traces of cultural history. If you are looking for a hotel in Haste, it may help to set your priorities first when planning your trip: Would you mainly like to walk through the forest landscape, learn more about the town’s history, or also explore the wider Schaumburg destination?

Hiking Trails and Regional Routes

Königsallee runs through the Haster Forest and is part of the European long-distance hiking trail E1. Check the route before setting out, as routes can change. A historic circular walk also leads through Haste and the surrounding countryside. If you plan to follow it, check the route in advance against current conditions.

The BĂĽckeberg Trail is 58 kilometres long and divided into three stages. Haste is listed as a rail destination on the route. Before your trip, check the trail markers and the current timetable for your journey.

Landscape and Wildlife in the Haster Forest

The former wood-pasture landscape was characterised by widely spaced old oak trees. The trees stood 30 to 50 metres apart, and some were very old. The Haster Forest is also known for its high proportion of black fallow deer. The Haster Bach flows along a natural course with natural banks through the forest.

Another seasonal feature related to nature is the amphibian protection fence along the L 403 in the Haster Forest between Haste and Kolenfeld. It is put up every spring. This measure is seasonal and should not be considered a year-round visitor attraction.

Historic Traces in Haste

The first documented mention of Haste dates back to 1612. It appears in the church register of the Lutheran church in Hohnhorst. A very well-preserved half-timbered barn is located at Kolenfelder Straße 13. Together with the historic circular walk, the barn offers another point of interest for anyone who wants to explore the town’s history as well as its trails.

Getting There and Regional Connections

Haste has convenient public transport connections to Hanover. As timetables and transport services can change, it is advisable to check current connections before travelling. This connection may be a useful factor when choosing a hotel if Hanover is part of your plans.

The Deister recreation area and the Mittelland Canal leisure area are also close to Haste. Across Schaumburg district, it is possible to travel by car, train and even by boat via the Mittelland Canal. An important east–west railway line runs through the district; stations are located in Stadthagen and Bückeburg, with smaller stations in Lindhorst and Kirchhorsten.

Schaumburg as a Wider Travel Destination

The landscapes of the wider Schaumburg destination extend beyond Haste: In the northeast, the district borders Lake Steinhude near Hagenburg, while the Weser and Weser Uplands shape the landscape in the south. For those interested in art and history, the Weser Renaissance Route serves as a regional guide.

Cycling routes in the Schaumburg region include the Weser Cycle Route, Deister Circuit, Princes’ Route and Bückeburg Countryside Tour. They pass through forests, meadows and villages; check current routes before setting out. At the Old Quarry in Liekwegen, visitors can learn more about the importance of the quarry habitat and its biodiversity at five current stations along circular trails of 1.7 and 2.3 kilometres.
