From Norddeich beach, the view stretches across the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site to the North Sea islands of Juist and Norderney. At low tide, visitors can experience the Wadden Sea on a guided mudflat walk. The Nationalpark-Haus Norddeich seal station and the Ocean Wave adventure pool also offer their own highlights for a stay in Norddeich.

Beach between the sea and the Wadden Sea

The beach has beach-chair seating and a nearby playground. The wide stairways known as “Wattfenster” and “Meeresterrasse” lead directly from the promenade into the sea. By contrast, the ramp at DECK on the promenade leads straight onto the mudflats. The facilities therefore serve different purposes: the stairs connect the promenade with the sea, while the ramp provides access to the mudflats. Tide levels or maintenance may affect conditions on the ramp; check the situation before your visit. At low tide, you can also experience the Wadden Sea on a guided mudflat walk. This makes a beach visit and a mudflat walk two distinct ways to experience the coastal area.

Seals and protected area

The Nationalpark-Haus Norddeich seal station is responsible for the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea, which enjoys special protection as a national park and World Heritage Site. Visitors can watch staff care for and raise the animals, and return them to the North Sea, from close by. The visitor program also includes trips to the seal banks and mudflat walks for all age groups. The program thus ranges from insights into the work with the animals to experiences in the Wadden Sea. The activities cater to different interests: you can observe the care and raising of the animals, choose a trip to the seal banks, or experience the mudflats on a walk.

Adventure pool and sauna deck

If you would rather focus on a pool or sauna experience than on the beach and mudflat activities, the Ocean Wave adventure pool offers a different option. Its 300-square-metre adventure pool includes a grotto, a waterfall, a current channel and a bubbling pool. Ocean Wave also has a 750-square-metre sauna deck with a pool filled with authentic North Sea water, as well as various sauna and steam cabins. The areas have distinct features: the adventure pool combines several water attractions, while the sauna deck brings together saunas and steam cabins with the North Sea water pool. Operating conditions may change. If you are planning your visit in advance, check the latest conditions beforehand.

Getting around Norddeich

For walking or cycling, the “NN 6 – Zweihäfentour” terrain trail runs through Norden and Norddeich. It is suitable for walking, Nordic walking and cycling, providing a named route for different types of activity. The Wattmobil is another option: it is suitable for taking part in coastal mudflat walks, but not for trips to the islands. The route and the Wattmobil therefore serve different purposes: the Zweihäfentour runs through Norden and Norddeich, while the Wattmobil is intended for coastal mudflat walks. Rental services and booking packages may change; check availability if you are planning to use the Wattmobil.
