Dinkelhausen is surrounded by mixed forests and gentle meadow valleys. Explore the area on extended hikes, or take one of two cycling tours that pass through the village or use it as a starting point. This offers different perspectives for planning your trip: the landscape as a backdrop, a hike to the Malliehagen church ruins, and routes on which Dinkelhausen forms part of a longer cycling tour. Two specific points of interest also provide a link to the village’s history: the earliest known record and the half-timbered chapel.

Hiking Around Dinkelhausen

An easy circular hiking route leads from Dinkelhausen through the Malliehagen Valley to the Malliehagen church ruins, then back to Dinkelhausen via the EselshĂĽtte, with its lovely views. The village is therefore both the starting point and the place where the tour ends; the valley, ruins and EselshĂĽtte mark the stages of the route. The ruins are also among the sights you can explore on extended hikes starting from Dinkelhausen. They are a specific destination for hikers in the area, while extended hikes also take in the wider surroundings. Check the current route before setting out, as trail conditions can change.

When choosing a hike, you can distinguish between a specifically described circular route and the general hiking opportunities: the circular route links the valley, ruins and EselshĂĽtte and returns to its starting point, while extended hikes take in the area around Dinkelhausen. The church ruins are a named destination, but not the only way to explore the area on foot.

Local History and the Half-Timbered Chapel

The earliest known record of Dinkelhausen is a document dated August 27, 1303. This date marks the earliest known documentary record, not necessarily the founding of the village. A different date is associated with Dinkelhausen’s present-day two-story half-timbered chapel: it was built in 1743. The dates therefore answer different questions: 1303 marks the earliest record of the village, while 1743 is the year the chapel was built. Considered together, the two dates clearly distinguish the documentary record from the building’s history.

The chapel belongs to the Uslar St. Johannis parish. Half-timbering is a construction method in which a load-bearing timber frame defines the wall structure. The building style and number of stories describe the architecture, while the parish affiliation identifies its religious context.

Cycling Through Dinkelhausen

The “Köhler-Tour” passes through Dinkelhausen, where it follows a relatively flat stretch across open countryside. Dinkelhausen can also serve as an alternative starting point. Another cycling tour, “ErlebnisLandschaft Delliehausen mit Holzkohlenmeiler,” leads from the charcoal-burner village of Delliehausen through the forest to Dinkelhausen and on to Uslar. You can distinguish the routes by these features: the Köhler-Tour focuses on its open, relatively flat stretch and the option of starting in Dinkelhausen; the other tour is defined by its forest route and the sequence of Delliehausen, Dinkelhausen and Uslar. This lets you choose between a distinctive stretch through the village and a named route connecting several villages. Conditions may change on the tour from Delliehausen via Dinkelhausen to Uslar, so check the current route before setting out.
