Elmlohe: Equestrian Days, Village Church and Countryside
Accommodation in Elmlohe
Elmlohe combines the annual “Elmloher Reitertage” with a distinctive village history and a landscape of water, woodland, fields and marshy meadows. When planning your trip, the main consideration is whether you want to time your stay to coincide with an equestrian event or focus on the historic village layout and the countryside.
The Equestrian Days as a reason to visit
The “Elmloher Reitertage” are held annually at the showground in Elmlohe, attracting thousands of horse enthusiasts to the village each year. The festival is presented as a four-day event. The 2026 edition ran from 30 July to 2 August 2026. If you are planning a trip for another year, check the dates for that edition before travelling. This helps distinguish the recurring event from the specific dates in any one year.
Countryside of woodland, fields and moorland
Elmlohe lies on a terminal moraine with sandy soil. Water, woodland, fields and marshy meadows can all be found within a small area; some agricultural land extends into the moor. A large woodland stretches from Debstedt through Drangstedt and Elmlohe to Kührstedt. This means small-scale variations in the landscape sit alongside a woodland area that extends across several villages.
The Church of Our Lady and the historic village layout
The Church of Our Lady stands in the centre of Elmlohe and is a brick church dating from 1346. Most of its furnishings, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, have been preserved. The building and its interior therefore represent different historical periods: the medieval brick structure was followed by the furnishings that have survived from later centuries.
The village street offers another point of historical reference. In Elmlohe, the southern stretch of the former causeway is traced by the slightly winding road that runs through the village from north to south. It connects Elmlohe with Bramel and Drangstedt. While the church locates a building in the centre of the village, the road describes a north–south route through the village and its connection to the former causeway.
Riding activities and farm shop
The Elmlohe-Marschkamp riding club gives children aged three and over their first experience of guided riding on school horses at the Marschalk-Pecksen riding and breeding centre. Riding students can develop their skills in further show jumping and dressage courses. The activities vary by experience level: children aged three and over can have their first guided riding experiences, while show jumping and dressage are offered as further courses for riding students. Confirm participation requirements and course availability before your trip.
In the Marschkamp district, LandGut Wolff-von der Lieth sells eggs and potatoes directly from the farm. The farm shop also offers meat, honey and spices. As sales arrangements and the product range may change, check the current options before visiting.
