Molbergen: Moorland, Swimming Lake and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Molbergen
In Molbergen, you can consider nature trails, a swimming lake, a park and historic landmarks as different focuses for planning your trip. When comparing the trails, their lengths and interpretation themes can help; the cultural sites, in turn, span from the Stone Age to buildings from the 20th century.
Moorland and Circular Trails
The Dausenmoorpad lies within the Molberger Dose nature reserve, which covers more than 600 hectares, and leads through raised bog landscape in a natural setting. The three-kilometre circular trail has 15 interactive and sensory stations. They explore the development of rare bogs and their ecological significance—combining landscape and educational interpretation along the route.
Another option is the Dwergter Sand forest nature trail and discovery path: its circular route is around 3.5 kilometres long and includes 17 information boards as well as interactive stations. The Dwergter Sand forest and heathland area near Molbergen covers around 2,000 hectares. When choosing between the two trails, you can compare their stated lengths and different themes: the Dausenmoorpad focuses on raised bog and rare bogs, while the forest nature trail and discovery path offers nature interpretation in Dwergter Sand.
Swimming Lake and BĂĽrgerpark
Dwergte Swimming Lake is a natural swimming lake with a water surface of 6,000 square metres. Around it is a 4,000-square-metre beach area. Toilets and a beach café are on site; check whether these facilities are currently open before making plans.
Molbergen BĂĽrgerpark offers a different focus. It is designed as a family and leisure park and includes quiet areas as well as activity areas for play, sport and socialising. The facilities described therefore differ: at the swimming lake, the water and beach area shape the setting, while the BĂĽrgerpark brings quiet and activity areas together.
Historic Sites and Buildings
St. John the Baptist Church in Molbergen features both Baroque furnishings and a Gothic altar retable. Much of the church’s furnishings date from the Baroque period. The altar retable was made of sandstone in a Westphalian workshop around 1460. These dates place the two works of art in different historical contexts.
The dating of the Teufelssteine megalithic tomb in Molbergen-Bischofsbrück goes much further back: it is attributed to the Neolithic Funnelbeaker culture and dated to around 3400 to 2800 BC. By contrast, the old village school in Ermke dates from 1907. The single-storey brick building has a bell tower, regarded as a sign of the connection between school and church. Together with the church, these three examples offer different points of interest for culture enthusiasts—from a prehistoric tomb and church art to a school building from the early 20th century.
Explore by Bike
The Molberger Meilen | Eastern Route is a circular tour in the ThĂĽlsfelder Talsperre recreation area. Check trail conditions before setting out. The cycling route thus complements the two walking trails described above, offering another way to tailor your trip planning to a particular mode of transport.
