In Biebertal, hiking trails, museums and local history offer different starting points for a stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Biebertal, you can put your interests first: are you mainly interested in the landscape, trails connected with Celtic times, or the history of the villages? These perspectives can help you organise the places you want to visit on your trip.

Landscape and hiking trails

Biebertal’s six districts lie around the 500-metre-high Dünsberg. They are set in a landscape of the Gladenbach Uplands characterised by hills, meadow valleys, and mixed beech and oak forests. Dünsberg serves as a shared reference point for the districts; the valleys and forests also shape the landscape.

The Celtic Hike is a circular trail with 25 stops about the Celtic period; videos accessed via QR codes supplement the route. The number of stops and the videos give the route a clearly defined theme, while the circular trail describes its format. The Celtic and Roman Trail is classified differently: it is a Lahn Facet, and therefore a short tour on the Lahn Hiking Trail. When comparing the two hiking options, different aspects take centre stage: on the one hand, the stops about the Celtic period and QR-code videos; on the other, its designation as a short tour on the Lahn Hiking Trail. These features provide practical guidance when deciding which type of hiking experience suits your travel interests.

Celtic times and local history

Vetzberg Castle stands on the summit of the extinct volcano of the same name, Vetzberg. The Celtic homestead was built in 2005/2006 directly behind the Celtic Gate. Each place is connected to its location in its own way: the castle stands on the volcano’s summit, while the Celtic homestead is positioned directly behind the Celtic Gate. Their construction histories also differ: the Celtic homestead’s construction in 2005/2006 is documented. Biebertal’s local history is thus reflected both in the location of a building and in a specific period of construction.

Museums and planning your visit

The Hof Haina Farmhouse Museum has been located on the highest of the five farms since 1973. The bakehouse was incorporated into the Heimatmuseum Rodheim-Bieber’s museum operations in 2011. The Heimatmuseum Frankenbach presents documents and objects from the village’s former agricultural and commercial working life. Their focuses therefore differ considerably: Hof Haina is defined by its location on one of the five farms, Rodheim-Bieber by the history of the bakehouse’s place in the museum, and Frankenbach by the subjects featured in its displays. If you are particularly interested in past working life, Frankenbach offers a practical way to explore it through documents and objects.

The Heimatmuseum Rodheim-Bieber is open to visitors on Sundays from 3 to 5 p.m. and by appointment. The Heimatmuseum Frankenbach is open from 1 April to 30 October on the first Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m., and by prior arrangement. Check the opening times in advance before making firm plans to visit a museum.
