Village Church: Medieval Construction and Later Changes
Langenlipsdorf village church is a late-Romanesque 13th-century fieldstone building. It consists of a nave, a narrower chancel and a semicircular apse; all three parts were built in the 13th century using regularly laid fieldstone masonry. The chancel is set back from the nave, and the apse closes off the building with a semicircular end. The church underwent extensive alterations in 1882/84: it was given a Neo-Gothic tower and pointed-arch windows. The building thus combines a late-Romanesque basic form with later Neo-Gothic alterations.
Craftsmanship and Carnival
Langenlipsdorf also has a connection to local craft history. At the site of SIK-Holz, Klaus-Peter and Claudia Gust founded a master woodcarving workshop in 1988 under the conditions of a planned economy. The business planned, designed and produced bespoke Robinia-wood playground equipment for children. Planning, design and production were therefore all part of its work.
Residents and their guests celebrate carnival at the village inn; preserving it serves this purpose. The local celebration tradition thus has a specific focal point in the village.
