Hosena combines wooded surroundings with its proximity to Lake Senftenberg. Cycling routes run through and around the village, and the Leaning Tower is a popular stop. Hosena Forest Swimming Pool offers swimming and camping in a natural setting. This brings together several different interests: time by the water, cycling and views of the landscape. If you are looking for a hotel, it helps to first decide which of these activities will shape your stay.

Views, cycling routes and forest swimming pool

From the 31.5-metre-high observation point of the Leaning Tower, the view extends across Lake Senftenberg to the island protected as a nature reserve; in clear weather, it can reach as far as the Kamenz Hills. The distant view of the hills therefore depends on visibility. Cycling routes run through and around Hosena, offering another way to spend time outdoors alongside the observation point. Together with the forest swimming pool, they provide different ways to enjoy a stay: you can focus on the views, cycling, or swimming and camping in a natural setting.

A historic landmark in the village

The village church also offers a tangible connection to Hosena’s history. Its cornerstone was laid on 4 July 1912, and it was solemnly consecrated on 14 September 1913. These two dates add a historical note alongside the village’s landscape and leisure activities.

Culture and history in the wider Senftenberg destination

The wider Senftenberg destination also offers its own cultural attractions. The Museum of Senftenberg Castle and Fortress and the Lusatia Art Collection are located in the castle park in central Senftenberg, between the market square and the town harbour. The art collection comprises more than 2,500 works by over 130 painters, graphic artists and sculptors, including works by Ernst Barlach and Carl Lohse. Senftenberg Castle and Fortress is a Renaissance complex built in the 16th century on the foundations of a medieval castle to secure the Saxon border. The art collection and the history of the castle thus offer different ways to explore Senftenberg’s cultural history.

Another highlight is the Marga Garden City in the Brieske district of Senftenberg. It was built in the late Art Nouveau style at the beginning of the 20th century as a residential settlement for workers of Ilse Bergbau AG, and is considered Germany’s oldest garden city. A modern visitor experience and wayfinding system leads through its history at eleven stops; Marga can be explored on foot or by bicycle. While the art collection brings together works by various artists, the focus here is on the history of a workers’ settlement.

Cycling and activities on the water in Senftenberg

The circular route around Lake Senftenberg is 18 kilometres long and recommended for cyclists. Senftenberg OT GroĂźkoschen is listed as the start and finish point. The Santa Barbara passenger ship operates on the lake, allowing cyclists to shorten part of the circular route. Senftenberg town harbour has berths for up to 120 recreational boats, as well as the associated service facilities. The wider destination therefore offers various options: a longer bike ride, a trip on the lake or a stay at the harbour.

At the harbour camp in Senftenberg’s Großkoschen district, you can take taster courses in sailing and stand-up paddleboarding with Expeditours. Expeditours also rents out rowing boats, pedal boats, canoes, sailboats and motorboats there; availability may vary. The courses and boat rentals offer a different focus from the cycling route: they take you out on the water, while the circular route lets you explore the lake by bicycle.
