Vierlinden brings together several cultural and historical points of interest that you can choose between according to your interests: fieldstone churches, castle history and the Worin Watermill. If you are looking for a hotel in Vierlinden, these themes can help you decide which places to make the focus of your stay.

Churches and a Castle in the Villages

Marxdorf Village Church is a fieldstone church in the Vierlinden village of the same name, located on a cycling route. Its location and architectural style appeal to different interests: planning a bike tour and exploring architectural history. Neuentempel Village Church offers a different architectural feature: it is a simple rectangular building dating from the early 14th century. The nave was apparently built first; it consists of dressed fieldstone masonry laid in neat courses. In comparison with Marxdorf, Neuentempel also offers a tangible look at the basic form, construction sequence and workmanship of the masonry.

Diedersdorf Castle was built in the Vierlinden village of Diedersdorf in the mid-18th century. Alongside the village churches, it brings another architectural type with its own history into focus. Friedersdorf Baroque Church, in turn, combines two periods: it is a medieval fieldstone building from the 13th century that was converted into a Baroque church in the 18th century. Baroque features have been preserved in its interior to this day: a vaulted ceiling, pulpit and altarpiece above the north entrance. Visits and guided tours are available by arrangement. The periods represented therefore span medieval building phases and developments of the 18th century: Neuentempel dates from the early 14th century, Friedersdorf combines an original building with a later conversion, and Diedersdorf Castle was built in the mid-18th century.

The Watermill and Local Remembrance

The Worin Watermill was first mentioned in 1398, remained operational until the early 1970s and has been a listed monument for many years. In addition to the mill itself, visitors can see the journeymen’s room, the former miller’s apartment and a permanent exhibition on the history of the last miller’s family. Check current visiting arrangements before your trip.

The gravestone of “Hubertus-Marwitz” in Friedersdorf commemorates a commander of Frederick II’s Guards Corps who refused an order from the king on grounds of conscience. This memorial adds a specific choice between a royal command and personal conscience to the area’s architectural history.

Märkisch-Oderland in the Wider Region

The wider destination of Märkisch-Oderland offers culture and nature as further themes for trip planning. In Buckow, the Brecht-Weigel House has been a museum since 1977. The literature museum hosts readings, concerts, talks, discussions, films, exhibitions and special guided tours throughout the year; individual offerings vary. In the Märkische Schweiz, you can explore the 17 km Natura Trail and the certified Märkische Schweiz Nature Park Route, which is just under 21 km long. The certified Nature Park Route is just under four kilometres longer than the Natura Trail; check local trail conditions before setting out.
