Discover Wustermark: Views, Architecture and History
Accommodation in Wustermark
Wustermark offers a range of starting points for planning a trip: the village church, the observation tower on Finkenberg, and historical and nature-related destinations in Elstal. From architectural history and far-reaching views to regional cycling and nature experiences, there are various highlights to explore.
Church and History in Wustermark
Wustermark village church was built in 1703, incorporating older structural elements. In 1793, the square tower with its Baroque bell-shaped cupola was added; the wooden interior ceiling in the form of a barrel vault dates from 1885. The different dates mark several construction phases, rather than reducing the church’s history to a single year of origin.
In the district of Elstal, many old buildings in the 1936 Olympic Village have been converted. Their architecture still shows how the athletes lived there and prepared for competitions. While the village church offers a look at individual structural features and when they were built, the focus here is on the athletes’ everyday lives in the past.
Views and Nature
Visitors can reach the observation tower on Finkenberg via hiking trails that converge on the tower from several directions. When visibility is good, the panoramic view extends as far as the television tower at Alexanderplatz in Berlin, 25 kilometres away. The trails lead to the viewpoint; long-distance views depend on visibility conditions.
In the wider region, Sielmann’s Natural Landscape stretches over 3,600 hectares between Elstal and Potsdam. Admission to the Döberitzer Heide Nature Experience Centre and Sielmann’s Döberitzer Heide Natural Landscape is free. Check the current arrangements with the operator before your visit.

The Havelland: Cycling Routes and Birdwatching
In the wider Havelland travel region, the numbered junction signposting system makes it possible to plan individual cycling routes. The Havelland Cycle Route crosses the Havelländisches Luch via Nauen, Ribbeck and Rathenow, continuing to the Westhavelland Nature and Star Park. It is mostly paved, flat and pleasant to ride. The junction signposting system allows you to plan custom routes; the Havelland Cycle Route follows a described route through specific places.
GĂĽlper See is also in the wider Havelland travel region. On the southern shore, a nature trail about 1.5 kilometres long, with illustrated information boards, invites visitors to watch birds. During the spring and autumn migrations, up to 100,000 geese and hundreds of cranes gather there; numerous waders, ducks and egrets are also present. These large gatherings of birds are explicitly tied to the spring and autumn migration seasons.
