Prieros: Cultural History and Nature Trails
Accommodation in Prieros
Prieros is situated on an island amid the wildlife-rich lakes and forests of the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park. Local history, nature observation and trails reveal different sides of the town. If you are looking for a hotel in Prieros, you can use these themes to help plan your stay.
Local History and Architecture
The Prieros local history museum is a half-timbered house around 280 years old, with a permanent exhibition on rural life and the history of Prieros. Archaeological finds and objects relating to the region’s everyday culture complement displays of historic working practices. Farmers, fishermen, blacksmiths, millers and other trades are represented.
The museum preserves an original black kitchen with a large smoke hood, as well as historic kitchen and cooking utensils. Other exhibits include everyday objects, clothing, farmhouse furniture, sewing machines and washing equipment. A 17th-century iron treasure chest with 16 locking mechanisms and two original paintings by artist Max Lingner are also part of the collection. Lingner had a summer residence in Prieros.
Prieros village church is a Neo-Romanesque brick building dating from 1875 and is listed in the monument register of the State of Brandenburg, as of January 1, 2026. Its reredos are dated to around 1675 and did not originally belong to the altar. The Old School was built in 1890 as a sexton’s house and school, 15 years after the church. The two buildings therefore offer insights into different periods of the town’s history.
Discover Nature
The nature park information point in Prieros offers tips for excursions and observing nature in the nature park region. It also hosts changing exhibitions on nature, art and culture. On the school grounds, a nature trail teaches visitors about native animal and plant species and invites them to explore independently.
The Prieros ecological garden features plant communities and habitats found in the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park. Together with the nature exhibits at the information point and along the trail, it offers insights into different aspects of the landscape, from plants and habitats to observing native species. The attractions each have a different focus rather than presenting just one perspective on nature.
Trails with Different Focuses
The two-kilometer circular trail “Prieros – From the Information Point to the Ecological Garden” links two of the town’s nature attractions in its name. The “Prieros and Huschtesee” circular hiking trail leads to Lake Huschtesee. Part of the Prieros Heath circular trail runs along the shore of Lake Tiefensee. Their length, destinations and connections to the landscape offer different points of reference if you want to plan your routes around a particular focus.
The long-distance Dahme Cycle Route also passes through Prieros. In addition to the circular walking trails, there are other options to consider when planning a trip by bicycle. The waterways provide another connection to the region: Prieros can be reached by water from Berlin, Storkow, Teupitz or Märkisch Buchholz.
Finding Your Way on the Water
Prieros Lock, located at kilometer 26.9, is a useful landmark for navigating the Dahme waterway. On the sixth stage of the “Märkische Umfahrt,” you can continue from the destination in Prieros into the Schmölde toward the Teupitz waters. These points of reference for a trip on the water differ from the destinations of the circular trails and cycle route.
To help you choose, start by deciding whether you would like to explore Prieros mainly through its local history, nature observation, walking and cycling trails, or waterways. Discover more destinations: Klein Eichholz, Dolgenbrodt.
