Eberfing can be explored through two distinct themes: historic buildings and a hilly landscape shaped by the Ice Age. If you are planning a stay, you might consider whether you would prefer to focus on architectural history and religious art or take a scenic walk. There are specific points of interest in the town for both themes.

Churches and historic buildings

Two listed wooden granaries, more than 500 years old, still stand in Eberfing. St. Lawrence’s Church is also a listed building. It dates from 1689; its Romanesque gable-roofed tower was retained from the previous church. The construction date and the history of the tower thus point to different periods in the history of this church.

The Church of Our Lady dates from 1653. Its furnishings include Gothic figures in the choir and a devotional image of the Mother of God and Child on the high altar. If you compare the two churches by their architectural and artistic features, the gable-roofed tower and its origins stand out at St. Lawrence’s Church, while the figures and the high altar image stand out at the Church of Our Lady. The different dates also provide two specific points of reference in time.

Drumlin field and panoramic trail

The hilly Eberfing Drumlin Field lies within the municipality of Eberfing. The geological feature was shaped by glaciers during the last Ice Age. Its formation is closely linked to the described hilly landscape and offers a different time perspective from the dated buildings: here, geological development shapes the way we see the landscape.

The four-kilometre Schellenberg Panorama Trail starts at the bus stop in Eberfing and climbs to Schellenberg. From there, you can enjoy views of the Alps and Hoher Peißenberg. This route—with its stated length, ascent and views—complements the churches and historic buildings. Check the current trail signs before setting out.

Weilheim-Schongau as the wider setting

The wider travel destination of Weilheim-Schongau is located in the Pfaffenwinkel travel region. The Lech forms the western boundary of Weilheim-Schongau, the Ammer flows through its central area, and the Loisach runs along its eastern boundary. These rivers provide a point of reference for the broader geographical setting in which Eberfing lies.

Another cultural and historical attraction in the Weilheim-Schongau destination is the Wieskirche near Steingaden. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983 and was built by Dominikus Zimmermann between 1745 and 1754. Church services, summer concerts and quiet reflection are possible reasons to visit; dates may vary.

The Erdfunkstelle hiking trail in Weilheim-Schongau offers a different focus from the Panorama Trail in Eberfing. The approximately five-kilometre circular route starts at Raisting railway station and passes through the satellite earth station, by large satellite dishes and the Radom industrial monument with historic Antenna 1. The comparison is between an ascent with views at Schellenberg and a circular walk to technical attractions in Raisting. The routes are four and approximately five kilometres long, respectively; trail conditions may vary.
