Accommodation in Lenggries
If you’re looking for a hotel in Lenggries, you can plan your stay around different interests: a cycling loop, a trip to Sylvenstein Lake or an insight into the cultural history of the Isarwinkel. Some destinations are in the town, while others are in the surrounding area. This lets you consider in advance which topics interest you most.
Cycling between the Isar and the Jachen
The easy cycling loop from Lenggries via Wegscheid to Leger is 13 kilometres long and takes about an hour. It starts and ends at the Isar bridge in Lenggries. Along the way, the route follows the Isar and the Jachen through idyllic river meadows. The distance and approximate duration give you a concrete guide for planning your time. As trail conditions and access may vary, it’s a good idea to check the current situation before setting off.
Sylvenstein Lake to the south
Sylvenstein Lake is about 15 kilometres south of Lenggries. Its crystal-clear water invites you to swim and relax; the lake also makes a good starting point for a hike. The Isar Cycle Path runs close to the lake. This makes the trip different from the loop that starts and ends right at the Isar bridge in Lenggries: the lake lies south of the destination, while the cycling loop starts and finishes in town.
Local history museum and cultural trail
The Lenggries Local History Museum presents cultural and historical treasures from the Isarwinkel in seven exhibition areas. The museum trail explores themes ranging from customs and crafts to farming, alpine farming and the history of timber rafting. The latter has been associated with Lenggries in the past and remains so today. The museum therefore presents different aspects of the region’s cultural history side by side, rather than focusing on just one topic.
The Lenggries municipal artists’ and cultural trail offers another way to explore local culture. Its 22 stops consist of steles dedicated to artists and cultural figures from the municipality. While the museum trail covers topics such as crafts, agriculture and timber rafting, the cultural trail focuses on people from the municipality’s artistic and cultural life.
Hohenburg is also part of the town’s history: the castle was once the region’s most important centre of power. A devastating major fire destroyed it on 21 July 1707. This specific date marks a historical turning point, with Hohenburg’s former importance and its destruction at the heart of the story.
