Litzendorf: Trails, Art and Movement
Accommodation in Litzendorf
Litzendorf combines outdoor activities with art and architectural history. Highlights include a pump track, a 5.3-kilometre nature loop, the Eulenwand near Tiefenellern and the parish church of St. Wenzeslaus.
Exercise on the Pump Track and in the Ellertal Valley
The pump track in Litzendorf is designed for mountain bikers. It comprises a main track, a track for small children and a “Dirt Jump Line” with special jumps for experienced mountain bike and BMX riders. At the same time, people of all ages and skill levels can use the facility with inline skates, skateboards, longboards, scooters, bicycles and balance bikes; people with disabilities can also use it.
The Art and Reflection Trail between Litzendorf, Melkendorf and Lohndorf is a 5.3-kilometre nature loop. In addition, a hiking trail concept was developed for Litzendorf, with 170 kilometres of marked trails and a hiking map. This means that a single, clearly measured loop and the broader framework of the trail network concept offer distinct approaches to planning a hike. The Eulenwand near Tiefenellern is a popular climbing area; the “Leinleitertal – Frankendorf – Tiefenellern” climbing area has around forty climbable crags.
Art and Architectural History
There are outdoor art and sculpture trails around the Ellertal Valley. “Die Juraschnecke” by Harald Müller is one of five artistically designed field monuments in the “Flur&Kunst” series in the municipality of Litzendorf and can be seen while hiking through the Ellertal Valley. A seasonal highlight is the fountain in Tiefenellern, a district of Litzendorf, which is festively decorated every year at Easter.
The Baroque parish church of St. Wenzeslaus in Litzendorf was built by Johann Dientzenhofer between 1715 and 1718. It is barrier-free, has step-free access and is accessible to wheelchair users. Check accessibility again before your trip.
More topics in the wider Bamberg destination
The wider Bamberg destination offers additional cultural and culinary experiences. Schloss Weissenstein near Pommersfelden is one of Germany’s major Baroque palaces and houses an extensive gallery with works by French, Italian, German and Dutch painters. In the 18th century, Leonhard Dientzenhofer extensively transformed the monastery complex in Ebrach into a palace-like Baroque complex; its Gothic church, with its rose window, was preserved. The Levi Strauss Museum – Birthplace Buttenheim tells the life story of Levi Strauss and the story of his famous blue jeans. Seven culinary tours explore the Bamberg region: three cycling tours and four hiking routes lead to river landscapes, viewpoints, places to stop for refreshments and regional producers. Check the current route before setting out on your own tour. The Museum of the History of Ebrach has been housed in the former Cistercian monastery since 2004 and covers the history of the market town and the monastery.
