Kolitzheim brings together several themes that can be given different emphasis when planning a stay: cycling routes, wine and history. When preparing your trip, you can first decide whether a cycling route, a wine-themed hike or the historical theme should be the main focus. The place names and route lengths below make this choice more concrete.

Cycling and history in Stammheim

The Main Cycle Route passes through Stammheim, a district of the municipality of Kolitzheim. Stammheim is therefore a clearly identified point of reference for a trip that includes cycling. The Museum of Military and Contemporary History is also located in Stammheim. It explores more than 200 years of Franconian and German history and contains more than 20,000 exhibits, images and documents. The time span and size of the collection offer two different ways into the museum’s subject matter: the historical context and the variety of materials it contains. You can therefore consider cycling and history as different focal points when planning your trip.

Compare routes and wine villages

Two hiking options differ particularly in length. The Lindach Countryside Experience Trail is 5 km long. The 21 km WeinkultTour connects the wine villages of Zeilitzheim, Lindach and Stammheim and can be walked all year round. This means you can choose between a shorter route and a longer connection between three wine villages. The WeinkultTour also includes a grape-variety educational trail: wine enthusiasts can learn interesting facts about local wines there. The route thus combines a longer walk with a subject focused on wine. The distances in kilometres give you a concrete comparison when planning your hike.

More destinations combining wine and culture

Different conditions apply to the other destinations, too. In the castle garden of the Baroque country estate in Zeilitzheim, picnics on a lawn are available as a group activity; arrangements must be made in advance. If you plan to include this activity, make the necessary arrangements beforehand. There is also a walk-in Bocksbeutel in the vineyards near Stammheim, described as the largest of its kind. The group activity in the castle garden and the Bocksbeutel in the vineyards are two different additions to the route and museum themes.

In the wider Schweinfurt destination

The wider Schweinfurt destination also offers further, distinct nature and culture themes. Brönnhof was added to the National Natural Heritage on 13 January 2016; the former military training area covers 746 hectares and provides a habitat for protected species such as Bechstein’s bat and the great crested newt. Ellertshäuser See, in the north of the Schweinfurt district, is used as a local recreation area. The Franconian Wayside Shrine Centre in Egenhausen presents a modern permanent exhibition on the cultural history of wayside shrines in an area of around 90 square metres. These examples broaden the picture of the Schweinfurt destination to include landscape and cultural themes.
