Ergersheim – Wine Village between the Steigerwald and Frankenhöhe
Accommodation in Ergersheim
Ergersheim lies between the northern foothills of the Steigerwald and the southern foothills of the Frankenhöhe. As a wine village in Franconia’s “Mehrregion” (More Region), the municipality is located directly on the Middle Franconian Bocksbeutelstraße. Juniper heaths and mixed forest also shape the landscape, offering hiking opportunities with an unspoilt character. This brings wine, landscape and activity together when planning a trip.
Hiking and Cycling around Ergersheim
Hiking and cycling are among the leisure activities in Ergersheim and the surrounding area. The juniper heaths and mixed forest, managed using traditional coppicing, give hikes a distinctive connection to the landscape. Those interested in cycling routes will find the 135-kilometre Aischtal Cycle Path among the options in and around Ergersheim.
The European Watershed Trail is another hiking and cycling option in and around Ergersheim. Its 97-kilometre route runs from Ansbach to Schnelldorf along the European watershed on the heights of the Frankenhöhe Nature Park. At 135 kilometres, the Aischtal Cycle Path is longer; the Watershed Trail connects its two stated endpoints. The route lengths and paths help distinguish between the cycling and hiking options described.
History in Ermetzhofen
The Jewish cemetery is located in Ermetzhofen, a district of the municipality of Ergersheim. It preserves a Tahara house and around 400 gravestones dating from 1791 to 1936. Historically, the cemetery served as a district cemetery for the Jewish communities of Burgbernheim, Ermetzhofen, Gnodstadt, Uffenheim and Welbhausen. The site is therefore connected not only with the history of Ermetzhofen but also with the history of these communities.
The cemetery entrance is on Bergtshofener StraĂźe and can be reached via a dirt track. Check access arrangements before visiting. Two mills in Ermetzhofen also offer historical points of interest: the ObermĂĽhle was first mentioned in a document in 1277, and the KellermĂĽhle in 1352. The two dates distinguish the earliest surviving documentary references to the mills.
Landscape and Wine Village
The municipality of Ergersheim has three nature reserves covering a total area of around 400 hectares. One is in Ergersheim, and two more are in the district of Seenheim. Their distribution shows that the nature reserves extend across the municipal area. Together with the juniper heaths and mixed forest, they have a clear connection to the landscape, which also plays a role in hiking.
The wine-growing character is also reflected in specific products: the Hofmann Winery in Ergersheim offers wine and Secco, grape juice and spirits. Product availability may vary seasonally. If you are looking for a particular product, check its current availability in advance.
Choosing the Right Hotel Stay
This makes it possible to tailor your stay to your own interests without confusing the different features of the municipal area.

In Neustadt an der Aisch, Aischgrund mirror carp is one of the local specialities. It is served from September to April, including crispy fried or “blue” in broth. These regional highlights complement the themes in Ergersheim without conflating them with the towns of Bad Windsheim or Neustadt an der Aisch.
