Discover Herrsching on Lake Ammersee
Accommodation in Herrsching on Lake Ammersee
Herrsching lies on the eastern shore of Lake Ammersee and is a starting point for hikes and other tours. The lakeshore and local history offer different perspectives on your stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Herrsching, you can consider whether to include the lake, a tour or historical topics in your trip.
Getting there and finding your way
S-Bahn line 8 runs from Munich to Herrsching. For your actual journey, it is best to check the timetable for your chosen day. Herrsching station is about 500 metres from the landing stage. This distance gives you a practical point of reference if you plan to visit both the station and the landing stage during your stay.
Lake Ammersee and tours
Herrsching Spa Park is located right on the shore of Lake Ammersee. The routes described also focus on different parts of the lake. Route 15 runs north from Herrsching along the shore of Lake Ammersee to Herrschinger Kreuz. Route 14 starts and ends in Herrsching, right on Lake Ammersee. The lakeside promenade has a playground, an outdoor swimming area and places to stop for refreshments. The descriptions of the two routes therefore differ: Herrschinger Kreuz is named as the destination for Route 15, while Route 14 starts and ends in Herrsching.
Seewinkel bathing area in Herrsching is an outdoor beach on Lake Ammersee; access is available on request. If you are planning to visit this particular bathing spot, take this access requirement into account. A 22.9-kilometre cycling route is also available: it starts in Herrsching and ends in Starnberg. It runs via Kiental, Erling, Aschering, Jägersbrunn and Maisinger Schlucht to Lake Starnberg. These route points provide a different guide to the area than the routes described along the Herrsching shore.
Archaeology and local history
The Archaeological Park in Herrsching is built around a reconstruction of the noble church and documents around 1,500 years of the town’s history. The exhibition includes a life-size figure of a Bavarian warrior from Grave 9, shown in full equipment. Alongside the park’s broad sweep of history, there is therefore a specific exhibit with a named grave of origin. Anyone interested in archaeology will find a different way to explore local history here than on a tour along the lakeshore.
Another historical point of interest is the Kurparkschlösschen. It was built in 1888 in the style of Italian aristocratic palaces as a country house and summer residence for the artist Ludwig Scheuermann. The rooms of the Kurparkschlösschen are used as the municipality’s wedding rooms; the Herrsching cultural association rents out the building for celebrations, concerts and art exhibitions. If you are planning an event there, check availability in advance.
A culinary recommendation on Route 11
For the final leg of Route 11 back to Herrsching, a fish sandwich from Mato at the long-established Stumbaum fishery is recommended. This recommendation adds a specific culinary idea for the journey back to town to the landscape and historical themes.
