When choosing a stay in Ohrenbach, churches, historic routes and nature trails offer different points of interest. They range from a late-medieval goldsmith’s work to circular and themed trails. If you are looking for a hotel, you can choose the focus of your trip based on whether you would most like to experience church art, local history or nature.

Regional Setting and Churches

Ohrenbach lies on the foothills of the Frankenhöhe Nature Park, on the edge of the Tauber Valley and along the Romantic Road. The municipality is 8 kilometres from the medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. These details place the town within its Franconian surroundings. The Frankenhöhe Nature Park covers about 1,100 km² and lies within the districts of Ansbach and Neustadt a.d. Aisch–Bad Windsheim, as well as the independent city of Ansbach.

The Ohrenbach Communion Chalice is located in St. John’s Church in Ohrenbach. Made between 1380 and 1400, it is crafted from silver and gilded; it depicts the stigmatisation of Saint Francis and bears the coat of arms of the Creglinger family. The material, religious imagery and family coat of arms come together in a single work of art.

St. Michael’s Church in Habelsee tells a different architectural story. It was presumably built between 1100 and 1200 AD, originally as a castle chapel. The nave was rebuilt in 1728; only the lower section of the south wall remains from the old nave, while the church tower remained virtually unchanged during the construction work. Pilgrims on the Way of St. James also regularly stop at the church to enjoy the peace and admire its quiet beauty.

Routes for History and Nature

The 16.5-kilometre-long Path of Faith is a circular route open year-round. It starts in Reichardsroth, at the bus shelter in front of the church. At its stated length, it is a longer route option than the 3.5-kilometre Nature and History Trail.

The history trail in Reichardsroth passes 35 stone slabs set into the ground and conveys important dates and events from the town’s history. The slabs bring historical topics to life along the route. The Nature and History Trail has a different focus: it runs for 3.5 kilometres through the forest in Galgenholz and introduces visitors to natural features as well as the local animal and plant life. The routes therefore differ both in length and in subject matter.

The nature trail near Reichardsroth starts at a hiking car park right by Reichardsroth Lake, northwest of the municipality of Ohrenbach. The lake and the compass direction provide a clear reference point for the start. Together with the information about circular routes, distances and themes, this can help you decide whether to focus on a longer walk, local history or nature in the forest.
