Three themes offer practical guidance when planning a trip to Worzeldorf: cycling, listed buildings, and landscape history. They provide different perspectives on the destination—from signposted routes and historic architecture to a geological outcrop.

Cycling routes of different lengths

The signposted 12.3 km cycling route between Nuremberg Central Station and Kornburg passes through GleiĂźhammer, Langwasser, and Worzeldorf.

Another cycling route is about 300 km long in total and forms a loop through Nuremberg, Hersbruck, Amberg, Regensburg, Beilngries, and Neumarkt. Within Nuremberg, it is signposted southward via Kornburg to Worzeldorf. The routes differ in scale: a 12.3 km connection between two endpoints compared with a roughly 300 km loop through several cities.

Listed buildings and local history

The listed Worzeldorfer Lach stone cross is also known as the Ullherkreuz or Dilherrkreuz. It is made of sandstone and probably dates from the late Middle Ages. It stands about one kilometer north of the town center, west of Schwanstetter StraĂźe.

The listed inn at Worzeldorfer HauptstraĂźe 15 is a two-story sandstone ashlar building, gable-end facing the street, with a pitched roof and the date 1699. The property also includes outbuildings, a barn built around 1903, and stables. The dates refer to different facts: 1699 is inscribed on the inn, while the barn was built around 1903.

The area’s history also includes its former connection to Pillenreuth Monastery: Worzeldorf and Herpersdorf were monastery villages. This historical connection encompasses both villages and adds another perspective on the region alongside its individual historic buildings.

Hiking destination and landscape history

The VGN hiking route “Around Kornburg” is described in a brochure dated September 30, 2022. It passes over Worzeldorfer Berg and continues to an allotment garden colony and the Steinbrüchlein, with its historic inn and beer garden. Trail conditions and amenities may change; check the latest information before setting out.

The Hohlsteinbruch Worzeldorf is designated as a geological outcrop. Geological outcrops generally serve as archives of Earth’s history and provide insights into the development of an area and its landscape. This brings a geological perspective into view alongside the history of the town and its buildings.

Culture in the wider destination of Nuremberg

The wider destination of Nuremberg offers further cultural and historical attractions. The City Museum at the Fembo House tells the story of more than 950 years of city history and is located in the heart of the Old Town, in Nuremberg’s only surviving late Renaissance merchant’s house. The permanent exhibition at the Imperial Castle Museum presents the castle’s architectural history, its historical significance, and the development of the history of weaponry in the Middle Ages. At the original site, the Memorium Nuremberg Trials in the wider destination of Nuremberg provides information about the Nuremberg Trials. Sections of the original dock from Courtroom 600, along with historical audio and film documents, convey an impression of the proceedings.
