Townscape and history

Henfenfeld is built on the eastern and western slopes of the Jura and lies on the Hammerbach near its confluence with the Pegnitz. Streams, the river and the Jura slopes thus define the town’s geographical landmarks. If you are also interested in its history: Henfenfeld was first mentioned in a document on 13 April 1059.

Hiking and cycling

One return-route option on the Mühlenweg leads past the Edelweißhütte and Arzberg Tower in the direction of Hersbruck. Another route runs from the Henfenfeld railway underpass through the Pegnitz Valley to Reichenschwand and Hansgörgl; this route is 3 kilometres long. This gives you both a route with named waypoints and a specific distance to use as a guide when planning.

Before setting out on a hike, you can check current trail conditions. The routes mentioned use different landmarks: the Edelweißhütte and Arzberg Tower are part of the return-route option on the Mühlenweg, while the 3-kilometre route through the Pegnitz Valley leads to Reichenschwand and Hansgörgl.

Cycling is also part of the local range of activities: Henfenfeld is in the Hersbrucker Schweiz cycling area, where tours run along streams and rivers. When planning your activities, you can choose between hiking trails and cycling tours without treating the two types of route as the same.
