Trebgast offers three distinct themes to help you plan your trip: the swimming lake, St. John’s Parish Church and the open-air theatre. If you are looking for a hotel in Trebgast, these highlights can guide your choice of destination: water and designated sports routes, a historic ensemble or the Trebgast Summer Plays.

Swimming lake and routes

The Trebgast swimming lake covers 60,000 square metres, is fed by spring water and is an EU bathing water site. The Trebgast swimming lake recreation centre includes a pedal boat rental service. The Activ and Health Park also starts at the lake. Its 22 kilometres of designated routes are intended for Nordic walking, biking and trail running. This means you can consider the lake’s water-based activities and the three named sports as different interests when planning your trip.

Nearby, the Trebgast Trail runs halfway up the hillside, with views of the swimming lake, heading northeast towards the picturesque village of Trebgast. The trail thus complements the lake’s offerings with a perspective from the surrounding area.

Parish church and Rochus Chapel

St. John’s Parish Church is visible from far away as a landmark of Trebgast. Together with the rectory, charnel house, community centre and the associated retaining walls, it forms an impressive architectural ensemble. The present-day church is the third building on this site: its construction began on 6 September 1742, and it was consecrated on 24 August 1751. Inside, it features stucco work by the Italian artist Francesco Andreioli. The church’s construction history, ensemble and interior offer different architectural points of interest.

The Rochus Chapel stands in front of the parish church. It was built around 1400, served as a charnel house until around 1700 and was remodelled in 1726. The chapel houses a small museum with a stone pulpit dating from 1617, baptismal fonts, an epitaph from 1748, a historic clock mechanism and a fresco of St. Roch. The building’s history and its various exhibits add a distinct historical perspective to the church ensemble. If you would like to include the museum in your plans, check current access arrangements in advance.

Open-air theatre and summer plays

The Trebgast open-air theatre features performances exclusively by amateur actors from the region. The Trebgast Summer Plays have been held there every year without interruption since 1953. This means that, alongside its buildings, the town’s cultural offerings also include a regularly recurring series of events. If you would like to plan your trip around a performance, check the dates for your travel period.
