Tröstau: Hammer Castle, Cycling Routes and Golf
Accommodation in Tröstau
Tröstau is a state-recognised holiday resort in the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park. There are several different options to choose from when deciding on your destination: the listed Hammer Castle in Leupoldsdorf, geological and historical trails, cycling, the outdoor swimming pool and golf. You can tailor your stay to the topics that interest you most.
Hammer Castle and the history of Leupoldsdorf
Hammer Castle and its associated ponds are located in the district of Leupoldsdorf, and the complex is a listed monument. The gatehouse houses a tourist information office and an exhibition about Hammer Castle and the master hammermen. The waterwheel is also part of the visitor experience: visitors can set it in motion by opening a small weir. The buildings, exhibition and waterwheel offer different ways to explore this district and its history.
Hike or cycle along former railway lines
The Leupoldsdorf–Vordorf geological and historical nature trail is 9 kilometres long. Along the way, it explains geological phenomena and traces of former mining activity. You can walk the trail in either direction or visit individual stops. This means you can plan your hike as a full route or focus on selected stops.
The Bavaria–Bohemia Bridge Cycle Path offers a different perspective. It passes via Silberhaus to the holiday resort of Tröstau; the section between Tröstau and Selb is family-friendly, with no major climbs, and follows former railway lines. There are more than a dozen listed bridges along this route. So if you are choosing between a themed hike and a cycling tour, the options differ both in how you travel and in their focus: one centres on geological phenomena and traces of mining, the other on former railway lines and bridges.
Outdoor swimming pool and golf course
On the western edge of Tröstau, the outdoor swimming pool offers opportunities for swimming, sunbathing and playing. It complements the trails and cultural attractions with activities by the water.
The 18-hole golf course in Tröstau has a playing length of 5,870 metres and a par of 71. Facilities include a practice green and a spacious driving range; the course programme caters to everyone from beginners to advanced golfers. The course’s various bodies of water and cultural biotopes provide a refuge for plant and animal species that have become rare. The golf course in the Fahrenbach district lies at the foot of the 993-metre-high Kösseine.
