Staudach-Egerndach is a destination for travelers who want to include moorland landscapes, mountain hikes, and local history in their travel plans. Protected moorlands, trails on the Hochgern, and historic churches offer a range of attractions. Cycling routes and a small art space are also among the local highlights.

Moorland Trails and Protected Moorlands

The Staudach-Egerndach Filze are designated and protected wet meadows for ground-nesting birds. The Kleine Moorrundweg (Small Moor Circular Trail) runs through the Egerndacher and Staudacher Filze. Various stations explore the subject of moorland; along the way, you will also find quiet places to relax. The trail is flat, with no significant inclines. It is suitable for older people and small children and can be walked with a stroller. Weather conditions can affect the trails, so take them into account when planning. A nearby moorland nature trail lets you experience the moorland landscape over several kilometers.

Hiking Destinations on the Hochgern

The Staudacher Alm is an alpine hut built from natural stone at an elevation of 1,150 meters. From there, you can enjoy views of the Hochgern and the Zwölferspitz. The Hochgern itself is 1,748 meters high. The hut serves hearty snacks; seasonal opening may vary. A hike to the alpine pastures follows the Vorderalm–Brachtalm–Staudacher Alm circular route. The trail begins at the Holzlagerplatz hiking car park in Mühlwinkel and offers views of the Hochgern from its striking, rugged north side.

Nearby, the Schnappenkirche, built in 1640, stands on the Schnappenberg in the municipality of Marquartstein, at an elevation of 1,100 meters. It belongs to the Staudach-Egerndach parish. Hiking trails lead from Staudach-Egerndach through the mountain forest to the church; from there, the view stretches across the Chiemgau and Lake Chiemsee. The hike thus combines a specific destination with sweeping views.

Cycling Routes and the Planet Trail

The MTB 31 Brachtalm mountain bike tour starts at the Holzlagerplatz in Mühlwinkl. It passes the church and follows the cycle path toward Bergen. The “Achen-Achter for Gravel” cycling tour, by contrast, starts at the bridge over the Tiroler Ache in Staudach. It initially follows the cycle path along the Ache, then passes through Egerndach and continues along the Staudach-Egerndacher Filze. The different starting points and routes help you distinguish between the tours described.

The Planet Trail runs between Staudach-Egerndach and Marquartstein and offers insights into our solar system. It was created by students from the Landschulheim Marquartstein Gymnasium. The “Playground and Treats Loop” route follows the Achendamm, also known as the Planet Trail, to the last playground in Staudach-Egerndach.

Churches, Castle, and Visual Arts

St. Andreas Church in Egerndach was first mentioned in historical records in 1260. The building history of the present-day Catholic parish church is a separate matter: it dates from the second half of the 15th century. An information board at the church gives visitors and locals a brief introduction to its history. Hohenstein Castle is also part of local history. It was built during the 10th century on a ridge of the Schlossberg.

Atelierfenster is a small exhibition space in Staudach-Egerndach that aims to promote and appreciate visual arts in the Chiemgau. Studio visits are possible by arrangement; please schedule your visit in advance. This makes it possible to combine an interest in art with the historical and scenic destinations of your stay, while keeping their different visiting arrangements distinct.

A Quiet Kneipp Facility

The natural Kneipp facility in Staudach-Egerndach is in a quiet location and is integrated into a stream. Together with the moorland trails, mountain destinations, and cycling routes, it adds to the range of local attractions. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can choose Staudach-Egerndach based on which of these interests in nature, outdoor activities, or culture matter most to your trip.
