Hörgering: Hiking at Zinnkopf and on the Zwicklinger Höhenweg
Accommodation in Hörgering
The village of Eisenärzt spreads across the high plateau of Hörgering, with views from there across the Chiemgau mountains. The trails head in different directions: one circular route climbs to Hörgering and continues to Gschwendt, another loop starts at the hiking car park, and the Traunauen hiking trail runs from Eisenärzt to Ruhpolding. When choosing a route, it is therefore worth considering its starting point, destination and type.
Hiking trails with different routes
Marked circular route No. 26 on the Zwicklinger Höhenweg climbs to Hörgering and continues as far as Gschwendt. The Zwicklinger Höhenweg is suitable for families with children. The route number and its designation as a circular route are useful reference points; the statement about suitability for families applies to this route. The Hörgeringer circular route is different: it starts at the hiking car park in Hörgering in the direction of Zinnkopf and follows forest paths at the foot of Zinnkopf as far as Höpfling. This offers a choice between a marked route to Gschwendt and a loop oriented around Zinnkopf that starts in Hörgering.
The Traunauen hiking trail to Ruhpolding runs from Eisenärzt via Hörgering to Ruhpolding. On the stretch from Hörgering towards Vordermiesenbach, a somewhat steep mountain on the left can be bypassed via a forest track. The trail is also suitable for pushchairs, as it follows surfaced forest tracks and asphalt roads; check the surface conditions locally. The distinction is useful when planning with children: suitability for families applies to the Zwicklinger Höhenweg, while suitability for pushchairs applies to the Traunauen hiking trail.
Other trails and points of reference
The Adelholzener and Ice Age Loop e-bike tour passes through Hörgering, where it crosses a main road and a bridge to the western bank of the Weiße Traun. It adds a clearly named cycling route to the hiking trails, with two specific crossings along the way. The Hörgering children’s playground is located in Gschwendt, 83313 Siegsdorf. The Zwicklinger Höhenweg also leads to Gschwendt. Thus, the same place name refers both to a point along the trail and to the stated location of the playground.
