Walkertshofen lies on both sides of the Neufnach. Two themes stand out in particular when choosing this destination: the Catholic parish church of St. Alban, with its long history of construction, and the Neufnach, with renaturalised sections on the southern edge of the village. There are also opportunities for short walks, a break by the water and a trail with meditation stations. If you are looking for a hotel in Walkertshofen, these local features can help you decide what interests you during your stay.

The Neufnach, renaturalisation and nature watching

Walkertshofen lies on both sides of the Neufnach. On the southern edge of the village, the stream was extensively renaturalised in 2022: a straightened stream became a natural watercourse with many ecologically enhanced areas. You will therefore encounter the Neufnach both as part of the village and in a redesigned section on its southern edge. The municipality of Walkertshofen is also located in the Augsburg–Western Forests Nature Park.

There is a small resting area with a bench at the fish ladder on the Neufnach. From there, you can observe the river and its aquatic life. If you enjoy spending time by the water, the bench offers a specific place to sit and watch.

The Staudenparadies is on the connecting road to Grimoldsried. It is suitable for a short walk or as a refreshment stop during a long hike. This describes two different time frames: a short walk at the Staudenparadies and a break during a longer hike. Depending on how you would like to spend your stay, you can weigh up these options differently.

St. Alban and the history of the village's construction

The Catholic parish church of St. Alban stands on a hill in the middle of Walkertshofen. It is visible from far away and, with its distinctive tower, is the village's landmark.

A Romanesque church was built on the site of the parish church in the 12th century, most likely by the local nobility of the time. Parts of the nave's north wall date from this first period of construction. By contrast, the nearly 40-metre-high, unplastered tower belongs to the Late Gothic building phase. The church's history can thus be understood in terms of its Romanesque origins, surviving parts from its first building phase and the later tower phase; the local nobility are considered the builders, most likely.

The Raiffeisen warehouse and local uses

The former Raiffeisen warehouse is also of interest to the village's history. It features a building type that is rare today, combining architecture, use and location within the municipality. The civic hall is housed in the building. It can be booked through the municipality of Walkertshofen for cultural events, club events and private functions. As availability may change, check with the municipality for current booking options.

A large playground was created in a green setting behind the warehouse, which serves as an event hall. The site's distinctive former warehouse, the civic hall and a playground in a green setting therefore come together in one place.

The Stauden Meditation Trail

The Stauden Meditation Trail passes through Walkertshofen, among other places, and has nine stations. They are based on life wisdom from the world's major religions and invite visitors to pause and meditate. This sets the trail apart from the short walk at the Staudenparadies: here, the themed stations and meditation are the focus, while the Staudenparadies offers a short walk or a refreshment break during a long hike.
