Diebach combines hiking trails with traces of local and architectural history. The Diebacher Krone coat-of-arms trail, the Nixe hiking trail, the Hay Bridge and St. Bartholomew’s Church each offer a different focus.

Hiking and Cycling on the Diebacher Krone

The Diebacher Krone coat-of-arms trail can be walked in almost any weather and, for the most part, explored by mountain bike as well. One section follows a former railway line, which is also used as a cycle path. The trail therefore accommodates different ways of getting around without requiring any particular mode of travel.

The surroundings along the route also offer distinctive landmarks: the trail passes about 200 metres from the Diebach bathing pond and goes by the medieval Hay Bridge. The pond and the bridge are specific points that help describe the course of the Diebacher Krone. The route thus connects the former railway line with a historic structure and the bathing pond.

Oestheim and the History of the Local Districts

The Nixe hiking trail is a circular route around Oestheim, a district of the municipality of Diebach. Oestheim was first mentioned in a document as early as 800. The circular route and this early written reference offer two different starting points for learning about the place: its location as the trail’s starting point and its long-recorded history.

The Hay Bridge leads to the Grundwiesen meadows on the other side of the Tauber and is medieval in origin, preserved unchanged. Its connection to the Grundwiesen makes it more than a structure along the way: it links the route to a specific destination beyond the river. On the Diebacher Krone, you can therefore encounter both a route along a former railway line and a historic structure with its own connection across the Tauber.

St. Bartholomew’s Church

Diebach’s St. Bartholomew’s Church was completed in 1899 in the Neo-Gothic style. Historical objects inside include a fragment of a baptismal font from the 14th century and a wooden baptismal basin dating from 1746. These three dates give the church a layered history: the building dates from the late 19th century, while the two baptismal objects represent different earlier centuries.

More to Explore in the Broader Ansbach Destination

The broader Ansbach destination includes other cultural highlights located elsewhere. The Franken Literature Trail in Wolframs-Eschenbach is a 2.2-kilometre accessible circular route around the town fortifications. Its 15 panels focus on authors from the Middle Ages to the present day whose works explore Franconia. The trail combines a route around the town fortifications with an introduction to literature.

The “wiegen & messen” museum in Königshofen offers a different kind of collection: it houses more than 4,000 exhibits, including historical scales, weights, yardsticks, folding rulers and vessels for measuring grain. While the literature trail presents its subjects on panels along a circular route, the museum focuses on historical measuring instruments and related objects. These examples associated with Ansbach complement the picture of Diebach but do not replace its own trails and attractions.

When looking for a hotel in Diebach, these different themes can help you decide what interests you during your stay: hiking and cycling, local history or historic architecture.
