Wasserburg (Lake Constance) offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: historic buildings and museum themes, public access to the lake, an outdoor swimming pool, and a landscape shaped by fruit growing and wine. This makes it easy to plan your time around cultural interests, visits to the lakeshore, or seasonal impressions. The following places offer specific ideas to help you plan.

Culture and History in Wasserburg

The origins of St. George’s Parish Church date back to before the year 784. It was probably initially a small wooden basilica with exposed roof timbers. Stone plaques inside the church commemorate the complete freezing over of Lake Constance in 1573, 1830, and 1963. Wasserburg Castle also has a history that connects the town to the mainland: until 1720, a drawbridge led to it.

The Museum im Malhaus is housed in a former courthouse built by the Counts of Fugger in 1595/97. Its permanent exhibitions cover topics including witchcraft, fishing, Wolfram Geißler, and Martin Walser. Another cultural venue is the Wasserburg Art Station, with its changing annual program. If you would like to plan your visit around an exhibition, check in advance which program is running on your chosen date.

Experience the Lake and Landscape

Wasserburg offers public access to the lake at Gamswiese and Malerwinkel. At Gamswiese, the access is framed by mature trees; from Malerwinkel, you can look out over the peninsula and a nature reserve. The two places are distinguished by these features: mature trees at one, and the view at the other.

The Aquamarin outdoor swimming pool is right on Lake Constance. Its heated outdoor pool offers panoramic views of the lake and mountains. As opening arrangements are seasonal and may vary, check the current conditions before your visit. For an activity on the water, the Wasserburg Surf School offers Sundowner SUP tours on Lake Constance; availability may vary, so it is advisable to check dates in advance.

The surroundings of St. Anthony’s Chapel can also be explored through specific landscape features: old traditional orchards, modern low-stem fruit plantations, and productive vineyards shape the scenery around the chapel. In spring, a sea of white blossoms adds to the landscape. St. Anthony’s Chapel is located on the “Bergle” moraine hill and offers views across Lake Constance to the peaks of the Alps. It opens only for special occasions; check in advance when a visit is possible.

Autumn Impressions and a Regional Excursion

In autumn, the apple and pear harvest, along with the processing of ripe grapes into wines from the lake region, are part of the visitor experience in Wasserburg. Together with the orchards and vineyards, they make the town’s agricultural character especially evident at this time of year.

In the wider Lindau destination area

In the wider region, the Panorama Cycling Route along Lake Constance in Lindau runs beside the lake and through the gently rolling countryside. Fruit plantations, vineyards, picturesque villages, and viewpoints characterize the route. It complements the local impressions of Wasserburg with a cycling tour in the wider Lindau destination area.
