Friesenried offers specific themes to consider when planning your trip: the bird nature trail, with educational and interactive activities; a cycling tour with hardly any climbs; and churches with their own architectural history. When choosing a destination for your stay, you can weigh nature education, cycling and historic architecture according to your interests.

Bird Nature Trail: Birds, Puzzles and Sandarium

The Friesenried Bird Nature Trail features a total of 50 native bird species at 25 stations. The trail also offers a bird quiz, a Bandolino puzzle and a listening funnel. This provides a range of ways to engage: the bird species are presented, the quiz and puzzle invite visitors to take part, and the listening funnel adds an audio element to the trail.

A sandarium has also been on the bird nature trail since summer 2025. This artificially created, sunny sandy nesting site is intended for ground-nesting wild bees and other insects. This adds a dedicated focus on insect nesting sites to the trail's emphasis on birds. The Vogelnest wooden pavilion offers a view inside nesting boxes through a tube. The forest stage was established as an extension of the Green Classroom at the LBV Bird Nature Trail.

Getting There and Group Visits

The bird nature trail can be reached via the OAL3 and Road 2055; parking is available at the car park in Aschthal in Königsberger Forst. Groups wishing to visit the Green Classroom in Friesenried can register with the Friesenried Primary School office: 08347 207.

Cycling and Winter Routes

A cycling tour with hardly any climbs runs from the municipalities of Lauchdorf through Friesenried to Bad Wörishofen. Two features are therefore clear for planning your trip: the minimal ascent and the sequence of places along the route. At the wider Ostallgäu destination level, the RadReiseRegion provides a regional perspective: its routes extend across the entire Ostallgäu, are signposted throughout, are each 25 to 76 kilometres long and have their own theme. The tour through Friesenried is notable for its minimal ascent; the Ostallgäu routes also offer length, signage and theme as additional points of reference.

In winter, the best-known cross-country ski trail in the associated municipality starts in Friesenried's Aschthal. It is available seasonally. Winter routes thus complement the options offered by the cycling tour and regional cycle routes.

Church History in Friesenried and the Nearby Area

The parish church of St. Joseph in Friesenried marks the transition from a Baroque predecessor to a modern new building. Built in the Baroque style in 1695, St. Joseph's Church was demolished and replaced in 1929 by a modern, simple building. Following this new construction, the church definitively became the parish church for Friesenried and Salenwang. The building history and parish status thus came together in 1929, but tell different parts of the story: the replacement of the old church and the new building's definitive role as a parish church.

The Church of St. Bartholomew and Cyriacus lies between Friesenried and Salenwang in the nearby area. It was consecrated on 29 October 1508. The choir and nave are Late Gothic, as is the church tower; the furnishings today are Late Baroque. Unlike the simple modern building in Friesenried, this church features Late Gothic architectural elements and Late Baroque furnishings. Another chapel on Riedberg lies southeast of Friesenried.
