Grafenhausen offers several distinct highlights for a stay: mountain biking, a circular trail with special features, a swimming lake and a local history museum. You can plan your trip around what you would like to do outdoors or discover culturally. When searching for a hotel, start with a simple question: Would you like your stay to be shaped by a cycling route, a walking trail, the lake or the local history? The specific attractions offer several different points to consider.

Routes and trails

The 17-kilometre Hochschwarzwald mountain bike summit trail opened in September 2015 and also passes through the Grafenhausen municipal area. Conditions on the trail can vary, so take this into account when planning your ride. The Schlühüwanapark in Rothaus offers a different kind of trail: a 2.6-kilometre circular route. At the beginning of the trail, there is a barefoot path and a forest xylophone. The options therefore differ both in activity and distance, as well as in the type of route: one is a mountain bike trail, while the other is a circular walk with special features.

Schlüchtsee

Schlüchtsee is a swimming lake in a nature reserve. From Grafenhausen, you can reach it on foot via the Promenadenweg in about 30 minutes. The approximate walking time gives you an indication of how long it takes to get to the lake; at Schlühüwanapark, the length of the circular route is the main point of reference. These are different considerations when planning an outing. Schlüchtsee has a kiosk with a sun terrace, changing rooms and sanitary facilities. These facilities may change, so check locally for the latest information before your trip.

Hüsli Local History Museum

Hüsli Local History Museum adds a cultural and historical focus to the trails and the lake. Helene Siegfried, a concert singer living in Berlin, built it in 1912 as a holiday home based on her personal ideas about Black Forest architecture. Hüsli is in the Rothaus district, and its collection includes objects from the everyday lives of Black Forest farmers. Two perspectives come together here: the personal story of the house’s creation and the rural everyday life represented in the collection. Its original purpose as a holiday home and its current function as a local history museum belong to different chapters of its history.

The dates also refer to different events: Hüsli was built as a holiday home in 1912, while the mountain bike summit trail opened in September 2015. This places the building’s history and the recreational attraction in separate time periods, without suggesting that they describe the same chapter of local history.

Find a hotel for your trip

If you are looking for a hotel in Grafenhausen, you can first decide which of these themes will shape your trip most: the mountain bike trail, the circular route, Schlüchtsee or Hüsli. Then compare specific hotel offers based on the information provided and your own requirements.
