Görwihl: Forest Trails, Handicrafts and Hotels
Accommodation in Görwihl
Görwihl offers several specific points of interest to help you choose where to stay: woodland scenery and hiking trails, regional craft history, and the Aquihl indoor swimming pool. When looking for a hotel, you can choose according to whether you mainly want to spend time outdoors, learn about traditional ways of working, or plan activities in and around the water.
Hikes, Forest and Water
Numerous hiking trails in Görwihl pass viewpoints overlooking the Alps, follow the Höllbach waterfalls, and wind through the Höllbach Valley with its unspoiled landscape. The Krai-Woog-Gumpen, also known as the Glacier Mill, is a natural wonder from the Ice Age in the middle of the forest. It consists of two stone basins close together, each around 2.70 metres in diameter. They formed during the Ice Age, when a glacier had to cross a ridge of rock there.
The Höllbach waterfalls are near Görwihl. There, the Höllbach, a tributary of the Alb, plunges around 8.50 metres. A shady, peaceful circular hike along the water starts at the Sägmooshütte in Görwihl and can be combined with a visit to the waterfalls. The route is around 3.5 kilometres long and also suitable for children to walk; conditions may vary. This provides both a variety of hiking trails and a specific circular route to help you plan your visit.
Handicrafts at the Görwihl Local History Museum
The saltpetre works at the local history museum present the historic craft of the Salpeterer. In the past, they collected crystallised saltpetre from stable walls and manure heaps. At the works, this was leached to produce potassium nitrate, an important raw material for making gunpowder. This brings the historic work process to life, as well as the finished material.
Another exhibit is the 4.20-metre-wide passementerie loom. It is the last still-functioning loom of its kind in the entire High Rhine region. It can weave up to 40 fine silk ribbons in a single operation. The saltpetre works and the loom thus illustrate different facets of historic craftsmanship.
Walks, Puzzles and Aquihl
The Görwihl Bird Nature Trail is an informative walk where children can get to know local birdlife and learn about nature through play. It is a separate point of interest for anyone who wants to combine a walk with learning about nature.
Annis Schwarzwaldgeheimnis starts at the Sägmooshütte and leads through the forest along the Bird Nature Trail. The puzzle backpack for the tour is available at Eichrüttehof in Görwihl. It contains several locked boxes, as well as all the clues and materials for the tour. Collection arrangements may change; check them before your visit.
The Aquihl indoor swimming pool offers another activity: a hydraulically adjustable movable floor lets you set the water depth to suit your needs. The swimming pool is 16.66 metres long and around 8 metres wide. Courses include baby swimming, aqua fitness and aqua jogging. Check current operating information before visiting; the course offerings may also change.
