In Stetten, winegrowing, paths through vineyards and woodland, and historic buildings shape the character of a stay. When planning, you can choose between a stroll related to wine, a longer circular hike and visits to notable cultural sites. The different route lengths make it easier to fit outings into your stay.

Winegrowing, Wine Routes and Y-Burg

The Beurer winery in Kernen-Stetten offers wine tastings as well as guided tours of the winery and cellars. Check the current arrangements for visits before you travel. The museum vineyard at Stetten’s Y-Burg is planted with more than 30 different medieval grape varieties. A wine route just under two and a half kilometres long also runs through the village of Stetten. This walking route tells a story about each grape variety grown there.

During the summer and late summer months, Y-Burg provides the backdrop for the annual Culinary Wine Route. In the wider destination of Kernen im Remstal, this setting also hosts small-scale theatre performances and traditional wine tastings by the Stetten winegrowers. Wine tastings and wine-related routes are therefore different ways to include the subject in your own stay.

Walking Route or Circular Hike

The wine route is just under two and a half kilometres long; the longer alternative is the seven-kilometre Stetten circular hiking trail KE1. It passes through vineyards and woodland, starts and ends at the Protestant church, and goes by the Kugelbahn, Y-Burg, a water and climbing playground, and the DAV climbing garden. You can also choose your route based on whether you prefer a shorter stroll or a circular hike that takes in several named points.

From Stetten, an approximately 30-minute walk leads to the Herzogliche Kugelbahn. This 800 m family attraction has 25 stations and themed areas such as woodland and winegrowing; the paths are suitable for pushchairs. A visit to Y-Burg is also part of the same outing. The approximate walking time, the length of the Kugelbahn and the length of the walk refer to different things: plan the walk and time at the stations as separate parts of your outing.

Architecture and Remembrance

Schloss Stetten developed from a small half-timbered building surrounded by a moat into a castle complex. It brings together Franconian half-timbering, Renaissance, Baroque and 21st-century modern architecture. This account of its development encompasses both the earlier half-timbered building and the different architectural styles of the later complex.

The Forced Labour Memorial Site in Kernen-Stetten was freely accessible in 2022; guided tours were available by arrangement. If you would like to visit the site, check current access and the availability of a guided tour in advance. This keeps the access information in its historical context and helps you plan your visit based on current conditions.

In the wider destination of Kernen im Remstal

In the wider destination of Kernen im Remstal, the climbing garden of the DAV Remstal district group lies above Stetten and is surrounded by woodland and vineyards. Its sheltered location allows climbing almost all year round. In the village centre of Kernen-Stetten, on St.-Pierre-Platz, the KUNSTvollAUTOMAT sells small works of art such as drawings, paintings, word art, photographs and small sculptures. These regional places to visit complement Stetten’s wine routes and cultural sites, without being the same as the local routes.
