Riederich: Local History, Church Art and Orchard Meadows
Accommodation in Riederich
Riederich brings together a range of travel interests: local history, church art, a recurring festival and outdoor activities in the surrounding countryside. The B312 federal highway between Stuttgart and Berkheim connects Riederich to the regional road network.
Landscape, Hiking and Cycling
Riederich lies between the foothills of the Swabian Alb and amid orchard meadows. It is also considered a place for hiking and cycling. Both the landscape and outdoor activity can therefore be highlights of a stay. If you are weighing culture against nature when choosing a destination, two different perspectives come together here: historic buildings in the town and the surrounding countryside, shaped by its orchard meadows. You can decide which side matters more to you; both themes reflect different aspects of Riederich.
A Residential House as a Testament to Local History
A notable landmark in the town’s history is the residential house at Entenbachstraße 17. Dating from the 16th century, it is one of Riederich’s oldest buildings and is protected as a cultural monument for scientific reasons under § 2 DSchG. It is also significant to the history of the town and its settlement. The clearly legible timber frame is visible on the exterior in the projecting upper storeys and long, cantilevered brackets. The projecting upper storeys are the parts of the upper floors that extend outward; the brackets are the distinctive projecting timbers. The construction can thus be read as part of the building’s appearance, while its age and protected status indicate its historical significance. The residential house is in the old, traffic-calmed town center. The building therefore offers two perspectives: its structural details and its place in local history.
Churches and Art
St. Johannes Church adds a more recent chapter of architectural history to the picture of the town. Built in 1966/67, it is dedicated to Saint John Bosco. The church houses a modern Stations of the Cross with 16 stations, created by Irmingard Nagengast between 2006 and 2010. This more recent artwork adds another perspective to the church’s construction date and dedication. The church was renovated and redesigned from July 2023 to November 2024; its ceremonial reopening took place on November 24, 2024. The Church of the Resurrection is also listed as a sight worth visiting on a tour of the town and its surrounding area.
Events and Local Cuisine
A festival is held regularly on the first weekend in July, alternating between the ecumenical parish festival and the municipal community’s Bürgerfest. The festival format is therefore a planning consideration of its own: if your stay falls on that weekend, check the latest event information in advance. Local restaurants serve Swabian, Mediterranean and international cuisine. This lets you shape your culinary experience in different ways without limiting it to a single cuisine.
