Neuler offers a variety of trails for days focused on landscape and culture: from routes through forests and valleys to a trail featuring numerous sculptures. The specific distances and themes can help with your planning, while trail conditions, visibility and opportunities to see wildlife may vary.

Routes Through Forests and Valleys

The Brandberg loop is an approximately 4.5-kilometer circular trail through Brandberg Forest. Along the way, you’ll pass ponds and a small bridge over the Haldenbach. The 5.3-kilometer Bruder Klaus Trail has a different focus: it runs through the Schlierbach Valley between Neuler and Ramsenstrut and is dedicated to the life and work of Bruder Klaus. It is intended for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Damwild loop passes a fallow deer enclosure and also offers views toward Schwenningen and Ellwangen on the Jagst. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. The Eigenweg loop crosses meadows and small forests, follows the Blinden Rot for a short stretch, and ends at the Mariengrotte above Gaishardt. The routes therefore differ not only in theme, but also in the landscapes and points of interest along the way.

The Panoramablick loop reaches a viewpoint on the upland near Bronnen, with views toward the Albtrauf escarpment. How far you can see depends on the weather. The Sixenbach loop descends to the renaturalized Sixenbach, where aurochs can be spotted, and continues to Lake Espachweiler. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed here either. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Nature Experiences and Trail Conditions

The Nature Experience Trail runs from Leinenfirst along the Schlierbach Valley toward Neuler. Leinenfirst is home to a biodiversity hotspot with hedges, a gravel and sand pit, shrubs, nesting aids, an orchard meadow and information boards. These different features offer tangible ways to engage with the natural environment, without limiting the trail to a single stop.

The WaldWunderWeg complements this with numerous stations and information boards in the forest, focusing on learning, play and family recreation. The trail is paved, but only partially suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. If this matters for your plans, take this limitation into account when choosing a route rather than assuming that a paved surface is sufficient.

Sculptures and Architectural History

The Niederalfingen–Neuler Sculpture Trail is 8.3 kilometers long and features more than 80 sculptures. It includes a 5.3-kilometer Neuler loop with 52 sculptures. The works were created between 2001 and 2009 by the Sculturies, an informal group of people from a range of professions brought together by their shared interest in wood carving. The dates place the trail’s creation in context; for visitors, the sequence of sculptures along the route is the main focus.

The religious buildings also offer different historical perspectives. In Bronnen, within the municipality of Neuler, stands the late Romanesque St. Aegidius Chapel, with frescoes dating from the early 15th century. Neuler’s parish church was built in 1746 in the Baroque style on the foundations of an earlier Gothic church. The Holy Blood Chapel in Schwenningen is a Baroque chapel dating from the mid-18th century. Together, these buildings offer different points of interest for a visit centered on cultural history.

Carnival Parade and Places to Eat

The annual Neuler Carnival Parade features numerous floats and walking groups; it is considered one of the largest parades in the Ostalb district. Details may change from year to year. If you plan to attend, check the dates for the relevant year.

Places to eat listed in Neuler include Landgasthof Bieg, Gaststätte Hirsch, Gaststätte Wagner, Gaststätte Ebert and Die Burghardsmühle. As availability may change, it’s a good idea to check in advance if you plan to dine at a particular venue.

A Further Look at the Ostalb District

Within the broader travel destination of the Ostalb district, Rainau offers a distinct Limes focus. The Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005 and runs for about six kilometers through the municipality of Rainau, passing through Buch, Schwabsberg and Dalkingen. The Limes Park in Rainau preserves the finest sections and most significant individual monuments of the Limes in a unique concentration. A reconstructed watchtower offers panoramic views across the Ostalb. These places and attractions are part of the wider Ostalb district context and are not located in Neuler.
