The Geroldseck Arms Forge also brings history and craftsmanship together. It was first mentioned in written records in 1280 and once used pure water power to make weapons for the knights of nearby Hohengeroldseck Castle. The nature trail in the Litschental Valley ends at this historic forge and is 1.5 kilometers long and suitable for strollers.

Castle Ruins and Views

Hohengeroldseck Castle Ruins lie near Seelbach, rising high above the village in the Schutter Valley. They are a popular destination for hikers, families, and history enthusiasts. Another option is to try one of the three Nordic walking routes around Seelbach. They all start at the sports field and differ in length and difficulty; these two features make it easy to compare the routes.

For a longer hike, consider the 34.4-kilometer Geroldsecker Qualitätsweg. It connects Lahr-Reichenbach, Seelbach, and Wittelbach with the ridges of the central Black Forest. From Seelbach, the trail passes two castle ruins and historic forges before reaching a nature reserve. The local branch of the Black Forest Association regularly offers guided hikes around Seelbach. You can choose between routes to hike independently and guided tours; the better option depends on whether you prefer to plan your own route or hike as part of a group.
