Rust combines leisure attractions with nature and local history. The parish church of St. Peter in Chains and the Rheinauen Nature Centre also complement local orientation with local history, information and events.

Leisure attractions and seasonal differences

Europa-Park is located in the municipality of Rust between the Black Forest and the Vosges. Rulantica lies at the gateway to Rust, in the immediate vicinity of Europa-Park and directly opposite the Krønasår Museum Hotel.

In the Ortenau district, Rulantica offers year-round water fun for the whole family. It includes numerous indoor and outdoor water attractions, as well as the Hyggedal relaxation and sauna area. The outdoor areas Svalgurok, Dynstrønd and Snorri Strand have their own season: they are open from May to September, weather permitting. If you are planning your visit around these areas, take the season and weather conditions into account.

Getting around by Rust Bus

The Rust Bus runs daily from 08:00 to 22:30, except on 24 and 25 December. The route runs through the municipality every 30 minutes and includes twelve stops. It connects Rust with Rulantica and Europa-Park. Check the timetable before travelling, as service frequency may change for operational reasons.

Nature reserve and regional landscape

The Taubergießen nature reserve also extends into Rust. Several signposted circular trails lead through the area and are suitable for cyclists and hikers. This makes the distinction between the nature experiences on offer clear: here, the focus is on trails through a protected area, while the Climate Change Garden provides information about weather and climate change.

The Ortenau district lies between the Rhine and the Black Forest. The district has 23 nature reserves with a total area of around 3,110 hectares, extending from the Rhine plain to the higher elevations of the Black Forest. Taubergießen covers 1,695 hectares and is one of Baden-Württemberg’s largest nature reserves. The Climate Change Garden covers 1.8 hectares, while the Taubergießen nature reserve covers 1,695 hectares.

Climate Change Garden and Nature Centre

The Climate Change Garden in Rust is a 1.8-hectare learning space where visitors can learn about weather and climate change. It includes the 18-metre-high Günter Gorecky Tower, with 86 steps.

The Rheinauen Nature Centre, an information, events and experience centre, is also located in Rust.

Parish Church of St. Peter in Chains

Local history can also be traced through a specific building: the present-day parish church of St. Peter in Chains was built in the 18th century. Its nave was inaugurated in 1728; the church was consecrated in 1737. The two dates refer to different events in the history of the church’s construction.
