History

The former town wall of Neubrunn dates from 1400 and has been preserved in sections. The gatehouse is a surviving former gate dating from the middle of the 15th century. The Schlossberg Gate has also been preserved. At various points, sections of wall and gate structures from different historical construction phases can therefore be seen together.

The former castle is a three-storey residential building with a gabled roof. Its curtain wall, round towers and moat date from the 14th or 15th century. The medieval gate tower is regarded as Neubrunn’s landmark; remains of the wall have been preserved near the castle. The residential building, fortifications and gate tower are different structural components of the same historic complex and illustrate the variety of its architectural traces.

Over the centuries, the tower of St. George’s Parish Church grew from two to five storeys. Together with the town wall, gatehouse, Schlossberg Gate and castle, it shapes the historic appearance of the town. The date, architectural form and state of preservation give each building its own profile: the chronological arc extends from the medieval fortifications to the structural changes made to the church tower.

Nature

Neubrunn has 860 hectares of forest, considered an extension of the Spessart and Odenwald ranges. The Orchid Trail runs between Neubrunn and Böttigheim. Thus, the landscape brings together a broadly defined natural region and a specifically named route.

The forest represents the extent of the wooded landscape, while the Orchid Trail connects two places. Both details offer different perspectives on the surrounding area: one through its size and classification within the landscape, and the other through the specific route between Neubrunn and Böttigheim.

Leisure and Culture

Neubrunn has the Bleicher Swimming Pool (Bleicher-Schwimmbad Neubrunn). The grounds of the Bleicher Swimming Pool provide space for leisure activities such as beach volleyball and ball games. The Neubrunn theatre group is associated with a period of three weekends before Easter.

The leisure offering therefore includes a named swimming pool location, sporting activities on its grounds and a theatre-related event period defined by time. Beach volleyball and ball games are part of what the grounds offer, while the theatre group marks its own cultural period with the three weekends before Easter.

Surroundings and Getting There

Bus connections run from Neubrunn to Würzburg and Marktheidenfeld. Neubrunn is considered to be located near Bronnbach Monastery. The two bus destinations expand the local context to include connections to Würzburg and Marktheidenfeld; the reference to the monastery points to another named place in the nearby surroundings.

This provides several specific points of reference for placing the town in context: historic buildings within Neubrunn, forest and a hiking trail between Neubrunn and Böttigheim, as well as bus connections to Würzburg and Marktheidenfeld. The described proximity to Bronnbach Monastery is another element.
