If you are looking for a destination with historic buildings and a variety of nature-related attractions for your stay, Bietigheim offers several specific points of interest. The historic town centre has developed over centuries and is predominantly medieval in character. Half-timbered buildings, sculptures and other historic buildings are part of the townscape. Individual structures add different historical and architectural accents.

Old Town and Architectural History

The town church was built in 1401 as the Church of St. Mary; Bietigheim Town Hall was built in 1507 as a half-timbered building. These dates provide a historical framework, while the different buildings bring religious and civic architecture into focus. The Lower Gate dates from the late 14th century and is Bietigheim’s only surviving town gate.

The town fortifications also offer a distinct way to explore the history of the town: they have existed since 1364 and comprise a town wall with a covered wall walk running along it. The Powder Tower is a northern corner tower of these fortifications and dates from the 15th century. Together, the wall, wall walk, gate and tower show different elements of a historic town fortification. For a walk through the town’s architectural history, the different dates and functions can serve as reference points without being combined into a single building phase.

The Bietigheim Viaduct adds a railway heritage element to this historic picture. It opened in 1853 and has 21 arches. Another detail of the town’s earlier layout can be found at Hexenwegle: small bridge entrances once led from the flood-safe Zwinger to the upper floors of the houses. The two examples offer different perspectives—the viaduct with its striking succession of arches, and Hexenwegle with its historic connection between the Zwinger and the houses.

Art, Museum and Guided Tours

For art enthusiasts, the Municipal Gallery Bietigheim-Bissingen, with its extensive and unique collection of artistic linocuts, is a distinct focus. The collection gives your stay a clearly defined art theme, distinct from the historic buildings in the town centre.

At the Hornmoldhaus City Museum, a 60-minute escape room can be booked by appointment. Alongside exploring architectural history and art, this offers a clearly timed puzzle experience. If you are interested in a guided tour of the town, the Bietigheim-Bissingen Tourist Information Centre provides information about tours and sights and accepts bookings for guided town tours.

Green Spaces and Themed Trails

The tree trail runs for 3.3 kilometres from the railway station through the Wobach green corridor and the former garden show grounds to the Metteranlage. Along the route, 50 trees are marked with small information signs. The trail’s length and marked trees give it a clearly defined scope; its theme is learning about individual trees along the route.

The Bürgergarten is close to Bietigheim-Bissingen’s Old Town and is divided into a perennial garden, a wetland area, a grasses garden and a play area. These four sections make the garden a differently structured green space from the tree trail. Another connection with nature can be found on the QR code trail through the Metter Valley: one of its stops is dedicated to the vineyards on the Mühlsteige.

If you are choosing between the nature offerings, they differ primarily in their stated focus: the tree trail specifies a route length and 50 marked trees, while the QR code trail includes a stop about the vineyards. The BĂĽrgergarten, in turn, is divided into four named sections. This gives you a choice for your stay between a tree-themed trail, a vineyard stop and a garden with different areas.
