Todtnauberg combines local history with a range of places to visit: the Horneradsch forest and sensory trail, the Fatima Chapel on Bergerhöh and Todtnau Waterfall with the BLACKFORESTLINE. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, you can use these different features to guide your choice: Is local history, a themed forest trail or the waterfall landscape your priority?

From mining village to winter sports resort

Todtnauberg was founded around 750 years ago as a mining settlement in a high valley that opens to the south. The first spa guests, known as “summer visitors,” came to Todtnauberg in 1870. The founding of the ski club in 1906 gave tourism a further boost; the village began to establish a name for itself as a winter sports resort, too. This progression—from mining to early summer visitors and later development as a winter sports resort—provides a timeline for the village’s history.

Forest trail, waterfall and suspension bridge

The Horneradsch forest and sensory trail is nearby. This approximately 2.5 km-long experience and themed trail winds through the forest above Todtnauberg. Various paths lead directly from Todtnauberg to Todtnau Waterfall and on to the BLACKFORESTLINE suspension bridge. At the entrance to Todtnauberg, the 450-metre-long BLACKFORESTLINE spans the waterfall at a height of around 120 metres. The nature trail from Todtnauberg to the highest drop of Todtnau Waterfall is not accessible to people with disabilities. If accessibility is important for your plans, take this limitation into account.

Fatima Chapel on Bergerhöh

The Fatima Chapel on Bergerhöh offers a different perspective. It is a place for quiet reflection with a fantastic view of Todtnauberg. Residents of Todtnauberg built it in memory of those who fell in the two world wars. The views and remembrance give the chapel a different focus from the forest trail and waterfall.
