There are several ways to discover Löwenstein: medieval architecture, places associated with Manfred Kyber, a circular trail around Bleichsee Lake, and wine events and guided tours. When planning your visit, it helps to distinguish historic buildings and landscape attractions from events with specific dates. If you want to plan your trip around a festival or guided tour, check the relevant dates in advance.

City History and Notable Buildings

Löwenstein’s medieval town wall dates from the 14th century. It encloses the listed Freihaus, also dating from that period, which houses the Manfred Kyber Museum, as well as the carefully renovated Old Wine Press from the 15th century. Since 1993, the museum has housed an archive containing Kyber’s estate. This historic architectural ensemble brings together buildings from two centuries and a museum connected to Kyber’s estate.

Behind Löwenstein’s Protestant town church are the remains of the Old Castle walls. They add another named historic site to the town’s historical attractions. The Globe Sundial in the park of Löwenstein Clinic offers a different combination of design and timekeeping: this remarkable work of craftsmanship and astronomy is considered a rarity in Germany. It displays the local time and the current time in other places around the world.

Bleichsee Lake and Views

The man-made Bleichsee Lake lies on Löwenstein’s former bleaching ground, on a plateau in a forest clearing in front of Sandberg. A circular trail around the lake starts at the hiking car park. Benches in the landscape conservation area invite you to stop and relax.

The Löwenstein viewing platform is located nearby, on the B 39 between Löwenstein and Hirrweiler. It offers a view into the valley. The viewpoint and the circular trail around Bleichsee Lake are two different options if you are interested in landscapes and views.

Guided Tours, Wine and Event Dates

Castle and town tours, immersive guided tours, and Löwenstein mountain tours are offered in and around Löwenstein. Each format has a different focus: castle and town tours explore history and places, while mountain tours offer another way to discover the surrounding area on a guided tour. Which option interests you depends on whether you prefer local history, an immersive experience, or a tour through the landscape.

At the annual “Wine over Hill and Dale” event in May, visitors walk through the Löwenstein vineyards from one station to the next, tasting wines alongside culinary specialties. Check the specific date before planning your trip around the event. The Löwenstein Music and Wine Festival takes place on the second weekend in August at Weinhaus Löwenstein. The program includes traditional brass band music, hearty food and wine; check the relevant year’s program when planning your visit.

Guided wine experiences share insights about wine and include tastings. They are available for groups, as public tours and on request. It is best to check current dates with the providers. Unlike the wine event that takes visitors through the vineyards, these guided tours focus on sharing knowledge and tasting wine. This gives you a choice between an event day with stops in the vineyards and a tour focused on wine.

The Wider Heilbronn Destination

The wider Heilbronn destination offers another explicitly regional perspective. Heilbronn District has around 1,000 kilometers of signposted circular day routes in the Kraichgau, Zabergäu, Weinsberger Tal and Schozach-Bottwartal. The Neckar Valley Cycle Path is also one of the district’s featured cycling routes. These details describe the wider district and complement Löwenstein’s local attractions with a regional overview.
