When choosing a hotel in Oberboihingen, you can plan your trip around what matters most to you. Specific points of interest include local history, cycling, views and a seasonal market. So when choosing a hotel, the main question is which of these will shape your stay.

Local history and views

The Burgstall, Oberboihingen’s oldest castle, stood on an artificial hill in Steigstraße above the outlet of the Talbach stream. The combination of the road, hill and stream outlet brings the historic setting to life. For travelers interested in local history, the Burgstall is a distinctive point of interest.

From the Mörike observation tower near Tachenhäuser Hof, the view extends to Burg Teck, Hohenneuffen, Achalm and the Swabian Alb, as well as toward Stuttgart and into the Neckar Valley. Unlike the historic Burgstall, the focus here is on the distant views. This makes local history and panoramic scenery two distinct ways to plan your trip.

Cycling and seasonal events

Part of the Neckar Valley Cycle Route runs through Oberboihingen. This is a specific local point of interest for travelers who want to include cycling in their stay. The wider Esslingen destination also offers a county-wide perspective on cycling: since 2020, around 1,200 kilometers of county cycling routes have been available to cyclists in the district, and continuous bicycle route signs are in place throughout the county.

The Oberboihingen Christmas market takes place on the first weekend of Advent and has been a tradition for more than 30 years. If you are planning a possible visit to the market, the first weekend of Advent is the relevant time. Check the dates for the year you plan to travel.

In the wider Esslingen destination

Esslingen district is one of the ten districts in the Swabian Alb Geopark. Six distinct landscapes define the district: Schurwald, Schönbuch, Filder, the Neckar Valley, the foothills of the Swabian Alb and the Albtrauf escarpment. The district’s orchard landscape includes 1.5 million fruit trees and shapes the scenery.

The Hauff Urwelt Museum in Holzmaden displays fossils from the Posidonia Shale and is located in the heart of the Holzmaden fossil site. It has around 1,000 m² of exhibition space and is one of Germany’s largest privately owned natural history museums. The Köngen Roman Park consists of a museum building and an open-air site.

Trails and themed paths also add to the region’s options. The 6-kilometer Celtic Adventure Trail runs through the Late Celtic oppidum of Heidengraben, with new information stations and a free multimedia app. The Beuren Open-Air Museum offers a themed trail with 18 stations on natural and cultural landscapes, orchard varieties and cultivated plants. At the Beuren Soil Education Trail, soil profile pits are accessible from April to October, and guided tours are offered regularly.
