Accommodation in Nellingen
If you’re looking for hotels in Nellingen, consider your plans for your stay: local history, the nature trail and connections to Stuttgart each offer something different.
Klosterhof and historic buildings
The medieval village centre lies around Klosterhof and Riegelstraße in the southern part of the district. The surviving buildings of the walled Klosterhof include the provost’s building, the Old Rectory and today’s town hall. The oldest beams in the provost’s building have been dated to 1498; the Old Rectory dates from 1565 and the town hall from 1599.
The centrepiece of Klosterhof was a late Romanesque church built around 1220, whose tower still survives. Around 1250, a provost’s residence was established on the site of a former castle. As the northernmost outpost of a monastery, it was used to administer the monastery’s estates and income. The different construction periods and its former administrative role bring together architectural and monastic history at Klosterhof.
The An der Halle cultural centre is housed in a former tram depot. It is home to the municipal adult education centre and music school. This means you’ll find both historic buildings and a cultural centre with these municipal facilities in Nellingen.
Nature trail and circular route
The full circular route of the fruit and nature trail leads to the outskirts of Nellingen. There, the path runs along the Katzenbach through fields and meadows. Information boards introduce various nut trees. Above the Wörnizhäuser Mühle, the path gently descends alongside the Körsch; small signs there introduce trees and shrubs bearing wild fruit. The plant topics described therefore differ too: nut trees are featured along the Katzenbach, while trees and shrubs bearing wild fruit are the focus along the Körsch.
Another route option is the Filder cycling tour: this circular route passes through Ostfildern, taking in Ruit, Kemnat, Scharnhausen and Nellingen. If you’re choosing between a cycling and a walking route, you can distinguish between the respective route types and stops described here.
Light rail, indoor swimming pool and getting around
From the Nellingen terminus, light rail lines U7 and U8 take you to Stuttgart Central Station in about 30 minutes. Travel times and service patterns may change, so check the current timetable before setting off.
The Nellingen indoor swimming pool has set swimming times. These include a children’s splash time on Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m. Check opening hours and swimming times before your visit.
Free Wi-Fi is available within the city of Ostfildern at the An der Halle centre and at KuBinO in Nellingen. This information applies to these two locations; KuBinO is specifically located in Nellingen.
Ostfildern as a wider travel theme
As part of the wider Ostfildern destination, the Städtische Galerie has presented five to six changing exhibitions of contemporary art each year since 1976. The Scharnhauser Park community gardens also have their own history: residents continued to maintain parts of the Landesgartenschau’s Traumfelder from 2002 on their own initiative, leading to the creation of the gardens.
The community gardens include the Geotreppe, a collection of rocks that makes geological history tangible. The Scharnhauser Park landscape staircase is a 1.4-kilometre-long green park of meadow fields, with views of the Swabian Alb. These Ostfildern attractions add to the picture of Nellingen, but are distinct from Klosterhof and the local sections of the nature trail.
