Oberried: Discover Hiking and Culture
Accommodation in Oberried
In Oberried, historic architecture, hiking and regional traditions come together as distinct aspects of a stay. The Schniederlihof, the Felsenweg and the Erlenbacher Weidelehrpfad appeal to different interests: a historic farm, a longer hike with panoramic views, and a nature trail about caring for the cultural landscape. If you’re looking for a hotel in Oberried, these highlights can help you tailor your stay to your plans.
Schniederlihof: History and Access
The Schniederlihof was built in 1593 and opened as a museum in 1972. It is only accessible on foot. A signposted, easy-to-walk path leads from the church in Hofsgrund to the farm, a distance of 750 metres. There is a large car park in the village. Having a car park in the village does not change the fact that the farm itself is only accessible on foot; allow time for the walk when planning your visit.
The Schniederlihof has a rest area with seating and a small kiosk. During opening hours, drinks, coffee, cake and a light snack are available. Depending on the weather, the kiosk is also open during the week. If you’re planning to visit the kiosk, check its opening hours before your visit.
Hiking Trails and Different Highlights
The certified Felsenweg hiking trail is 12.2 kilometres long and leads from Oberried through an impressive rocky landscape at an altitude of around 1,000 metres, descending into the unspoilt St. Wilhelmer Tal. Along the way, there are panoramic views of the Dreisamtal valley and Schauinsland, StĂĽbenwasen and Feldberg. The distance helps you choose a route; no duration or difficulty level is specified.
The Erlenbacher Weidelehrpfad has a different focus. It explains how grazing livestock enriches and maintains the cultural landscape, thereby helping preserve particularly protected habitats. The two trails therefore offer different experiences: the Felsenweg focuses on landscapes and panoramic views, while the Weidelehrpfad focuses on maintaining the cultural landscape and protected habitats.
Mountain bikers should be aware of a clear restriction on the “Schädelwäg” trail: it is suitable only for technically proficient mountain bikers. The reason is that some sections are steep and cannot be bypassed. Take this requirement into account when choosing your route.
Tradition and Townscape
The cattle drive is the traditional highlight of Alemannische Woche in Oberried. If you’d like to plan your trip around it, check the relevant event dates. The herb garden is also a local landmark: it is picturesquely located near the former monastery in Oberried.
