Town History Along Trails and at Special Sites

Opened in 2023, the Archaeological Trail leads through the town centre. At six locations, telescopes take visitors back to medieval Neuenburg. The places and scenes depicted include the medieval town wall, the Church of Our Lady and Marktgasse, with its folding shutters for street vendors. This brings history to life not just as a collection of dates, but also as a spatial impression of the town at the time.

The Museum of Local History offers a different perspective on Neuenburg’s development: archaeological finds, documents, historic maps and paintings trace the town’s path to becoming a medieval centre. At Münsterplatz, another telescope looking into the past offers a view of the former church.

The Historic Town Walk in Neuenburg am Rhein includes 18 stops and is marked with information boards. Rathausplatz is also home to the fountain installation Monument, created in 1990 by Professor Lutz Brockhaus. City Park, Rhine Gardens and Rhine Cycle Route

The city park at Wuhrloch has two attractions with different focuses. The modern “Lakeside” skate and fun park has ramps and obstacles for skateboarders, scooter riders and BMX riders. Nearby is a medieval-themed playground covering around 1,000 square metres. Its size and theme give a clear idea of how this playground differs from the park’s sports-focused areas.

From the town centre, you can reach the Rhine Gardens via Münsterplatz, the Berthold Tower and the city park at Wuhrloch on accessible paths. The international Rhine Cycle Route, “EuroVelo 15”, also passes Neuenburg am Rhein and runs from the source of the Rhine to the North Sea.
