Discover Liévin: culture, nature and leisure
Accommodation in Liévin
There are several ways to shape a stay in Liévin: local and mining history, green spaces, or leisure and exercise. If you’re looking for a hotel in Liévin, you can plan your trip around what you most want to include. The city’s attractions range from exhibitions and historic relics to protected habitats and leisure facilities.
Culture and mining history
The Maison de la Mémoire displays Roman finds and exhibitions about the castles of Liévin, fossils, and objects discovered in the area. Archaeological finds, local history and fossils therefore come together as exhibition themes here. The program may change; if a particular exhibition is important to your visit, check in advance which themes are currently on display.
A striking remnant of the mining past is Chevalement n°3 bis, the last surviving relic of the Fosse n°3 of the Société de Lens. It dates from 1922 and is listed as a historic monument. The Centre de conservation du Louvre is also located near the Louvre-Lens in Liévin. It is dedicated to preserving works and to processing, researching and studying the collections. Its focus on collection work differs from the exhibitions at the Maison de la Mémoire.
The Jardin public Jules Bédart occupies the former site of the Château of the Ariono de Romblay family, built in 1742. The garden covers 3.21 hectares. Its features include a pond, archaeological remains and a kiosk, as well as notable trees and plants. The site thus combines the history of the former château grounds with a green space and a range of architectural and botanical features.
Green spaces and nature
Pinchonvalles brings together nature and mining history: the site is a remnant of the mining past and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can explore wooded habitats and trails, where hedgehogs, squirrels and weasels are often seen. Pinchonvalles provides a refuge for wildlife and has been protected under a prefectural biotope protection order since 1982.
The Bois de Riaumont offers a different focus: this wooded area is well suited to walking. The two nature areas therefore have distinct characteristics: Pinchonvalles combines protected habitats, trails and mining heritage, while the Bois de Riaumont is defined by its woodland and walking paths. If you want to experience nature and history together, Pinchonvalles offers a different perspective from a woodland area intended for walks.
Leisure and exercise
The Val de Souchez – Espace Guy-Dheruelle is a 20-hectare leisure facility for outdoor sports, relaxation and activities in the open air. Its focus differs from that of the nature areas: leisure and exercise are explicitly combined with spending time outdoors here. You can choose accordingly, depending on whether you’d rather include a woodland area for walking or a facility focused on leisure and sport in your stay.
Nauticaa offers a 25-metre pool, a pool with invigorating water features, a leisure pool, a 70-metre slide and a paddling pool. There is also balneotherapy, a sauna, a hammam and a fitness area. The facilities include swimming and leisure pools as well as wellness and fitness options. As facilities may change during renovations, check in advance which areas are currently available if Nauticaa is an important part of your plans.
Getting around Liévin
Regular bus routes on the Tadao network provide travel within the city and across the wider area.
