Le Touquet – Hotels, Art and Nature
Accommodation in Le Touquet
Le Touquet brings together cultural attractions, nature watching and water sports. The differences below offer concrete pointers to help you tailor your travel plans to your interests.
Art, Architecture and Views
The Musée du Touquet-Paris-Plage is located in the forest in Villa Way Side. It houses collections relating to the École d’Étaples, photographic portraits, and modern and contemporary art. Since 17 September 2003, the museum has held the French designation “Musée de France”. Visitor access may change; check current arrangements before planning a visit.
The Village Suisse makes an architectural statement: it comprises three villas designed in 1905 in the style of Swiss chalets. At the Phare de la Canche, the view takes centre stage: from there, you can look out freely across the entire seaside resort. If you plan to visit the lighthouse, check visitor arrangements in advance, as access may change.
Forest and Baie de Canche
At the northern tip of Le Touquet lies the Parc Nature de la baie de Canche, a protected area covering more than 45 hectares. From the observation points, you can look out over the estuary; with a little luck, you may spot seals and migratory birds. Pedestrians and cyclists have easier access. As visitor regulations may change, check the latest access information before setting out.
The Forêt du Touquet offers a different connection with nature: its diverse wildlife and plant life include great spotted woodpeckers, grass snakes and orchids. Cycle paths run along the forest, which is also ideal for relaxing walks. The comparison highlights two distinct focuses: the Parc Nature is about estuary views and the chance to observe wildlife; the Forêt is about walks and species diversity.
Water Sports and Plant Life
The Centre Nautique de la baie de Canche rents out kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, pedal boats, catamarans, dinghies and windsurfing boards. The selection ranges from paddle craft to sailing and windsurfing equipment, and also includes pedal boats. The equipment currently available for hire may change, so check the range before making plans.
In Le Touquet, you can learn sand yachting from the age of eight through courses, lessons and private tuition. Dates and age requirements may change, so confirm them in advance. The activities differ in how you take part: the Centre Nautique offers a range of water sports equipment for hire, while sand yachting is about learning. Consider whether hiring equipment or taking lessons is more important for your trip.
The plant life is another distinctive aspect of the Baie de Canche. Edible seaweed grows there, along with plants such as glasswort, sea aster and sea purslane; these species are prized by chefs. This adds a culinary dimension alongside nature watching and sport.
