Discover Menerbes
Accommodation in Menerbes
If you’re looking for a hotel in Menerbes, the village’s cultural and culinary attractions can help guide your travel plans. Options range from sacred and defensive architecture to a specialist museum, as well as wine and truffles. There are also different ways to visit: some places can be explored independently, while guided tours may be available on request. For events and offers scheduled for specific dates, it’s a good idea to check the current programme.
Churches, fortifications and early history
The Église Saint-Luc was rebuilt after the Wars of Religion in the 16th century, probably on the site of an earlier Saint-Sauveur priory. Its architecture features distinctive elements of late Gothic southern French design. One notable detail is the painted triumphal arch, which depicts the Triumph of the Eucharist. The building thus brings together historical context and a specific feature of its interior decoration.
The Porte Saint-Sauveur offers a different perspective on the village’s history: this 16th-century fortified gate was incorporated into the medieval ramparts. Those interested in the different layers of the village’s history can compare this defensive architecture with the sacred features of the Église Saint-Luc. The Dolmen de la Pitchoune adds a prehistoric perspective. It is considered the only Neolithic burial monument in the Vaucluse department.
Museum and botanical garden
The Musée du Tire-Bouchon features corkscrews from the 17th century and later periods. The collection occupies more than 50 display cases and includes several unique pieces. You can visit the museum independently; guided tours are available on request. If a guided tour is important to your plans, check the conditions for requesting one in advance.
At the Jardin Botanique des Domaine de La Citadelle, six restored traditional terraces extend across five hectares. The garden’s scale and terraced layout give it a different focus from the museum’s collection: here, the landscaped gardens shape the visit, while the museum centres on displays of historic objects. The botanical garden can also be explored independently or as part of a guided tour on request.
Truffles, wine and regional produce
The Maison de la Truffe et du Vin du Luberon is housed in the listed 17th-century Hôtel d’Astier de Montfaucon. Its offerings include a vaulted cellar with 170 wines from local producers and a delicatessen specialising in truffles and regional produce. The selection of products may change. The French garden also serves platters of local produce and regional wines; this offer may vary too.
The truffle market at Place de l’Horloge is a special event in the annual calendar. The municipality describes it as a tradition dating back to 1997; it is usually held on the last Sunday of the year. Check the date for your travel year. This lets you plan your visit around the market without assuming that its annual date is fixed.
Music and practical information
Les Musicales du Luberon organises concerts in Menerbes featuring classical, lyrical or sacred music. They take place in spring and summer, as well as on the day of the year-end truffle market. As the programme is tied to particular seasons and a specific event day, it’s worth checking the latest schedule before travelling.
The Menerbes intercommunal tourist office provides a village map and information about museums and activities. If you’d like to use this information to help plan your visit, check the office’s current visiting arrangements in advance.
