Les Salles-Sur-Verdon lies on Lac de Sainte-Croix and combines water sports on the lake with a village history closely linked to its creation. If you are looking for a hotel in Les Salles-Sur-Verdon, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: activities on the water, a scenic route or a look at the history of the place. The local offerings place different emphasis on these themes.

Water sports and beach

The municipal water sports centre in Les Salles-Sur-Verdon offers supervised water sports activities on Lac de Sainte-Croix. The 2026 programme of the Club Loisirs at the centre includes nine sessions of two hours each with a qualified instructor. The programme is for children and adults; advance booking is required. If supervised lessons are important to you, the number and duration of the sessions are useful details for planning your stay.

At Margaridon Beach, you can rent pedal boats, canoes or kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, foil windsurf boards and wingsurf equipment. This makes it easy to distinguish supervised lessons from the range of equipment available for hire.

The Margaridon boat ramp is open year-round and is exclusively for launching boats; there are no time restrictions.

There is a supervised swimming area at Margaridon Beach. The lifeguard station is open in July and August. The beach is located below the village and is developed and shaded, with a green space beside it.

Scenery and village history

The Sentier naturaliste de Toine runs alongside the lake, offers panoramic views and loops around the village through a natural setting. Alongside activities on the water, this makes a scenic route another distinct focus for your stay.

The history of the present-day village is closely linked to the lake. The former village of Les Salles-sur-Verdon was destroyed in the 1970s so that Lac de Sainte-Croix could be filled. The rebuilt village lies on a small rise overlooking the lake. The former site and the rebuilt village thus mark different chapters in the history of the place.

The exhibition “Un site, une histoire” traces the creation of Lac de Sainte-Croix and the history of the village through photographs. The present-day Église Sainte-Anne is also part of this more recent history of the village: after the former church was destroyed in the 1970s, it was rebuilt further uphill in a modern style.

The discovery trail through Les Salles-sur-Verdon lets you explore the heritage of the villages of Haut-Var. The trail is available to download and can also be obtained from the Les Salles-Sur-Verdon tourist information office. Together with the exhibition, it offers another point of interest if you would like to explore not only the scenery around the lake during your stay, but also the history of the place.
