Vallouise offers three concrete themes to explore during a stay: the protected Saint-Étienne Church in the village, trails along the Gyr and L’Onde, and the cross-country ski trails in the Vallouise-Pelvoux Nordic area. When planning, these themes differ in more than just subject matter. For the trails, route, distance, and difficulty rating are relevant; for cross-country skiing, sectors and disciplines provide orientation. This makes it possible to tailor your stay to cultural interests, a hike, or winter sports.

Saint-Étienne Church

Saint-Étienne Church is located in the village of Vallouise and is protected as a historic monument. Its bell tower is 45 metres high. Inside, it contains a gilded wooden altarpiece dating from the mid-16th century. These details combine a specific measurement of the building with a single feature of its interior: the tower gives a sense of its height, while the altarpiece draws attention to its material and historical date. In addition to its protected status, the church therefore offers two distinct architectural points of interest that you can take into account when planning a culturally focused stay in Vallouise.

Hiking trails along the Gyr and L’Onde

La Balade du pĂŞcheur starts in front of Camping Huttopia de Vallouise. This very easy circular route is 4 kilometres long. On the outward leg, the route follows a path along the Gyr; on the return, it takes a balcony trail above the mountain stream. The two sections thus differ not only in direction, but also in their described course along the Gyr and above the stream.

The L’Onde et Le Villard route offers a different point of reference: it follows the river L’Onde along its left bank to the Pont des Places bridge. For La Balade du pêcheur, the circular format, distance, and difficulty rating are specified; for L’Onde et Le Villard, the riverbank and bridge provide spatial orientation. If you choose trails by distance and difficulty, you can take into account the first route’s 4-kilometre length and very easy rating. For the second route, the course along the left bank and the bridge are the specific points of reference.

Cross-country skiing in the Vallouise-Pelvoux area

The Vallouise-Pelvoux Nordic area has 35 kilometres of marked trails across four sectors: La Vallouise, L’Onde, Pelvoux, and Les Vigneaux. Both classic cross-country skiing and skating are available. The sectors provide orientation within the area, while the two named disciplines cover different forms of cross-country skiing.

Beginners can find fun loops in the Vallouise sector at the entrance to the village. This specific information complements the details about the area as a whole: its 35 kilometres of trails are spread across four sectors, while the suitability for beginners applies to the loops in the Vallouise sector. If you include cross-country skiing in your travel plans, you can distinguish between the two named disciplines and the area explicitly suited to beginners.
